PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING INTERVENTION
According to Jordan, et al., (2019) Lee County has a population of 786,684 with 2% growth rate. 47044 deaths as a result of heart diseases were reported in 2019 which illustrates the prevalence of these conditions in this community. Cardiovascular system disease (CVD) therefore remains as one of the significant health needs in the Lee community. Data has shown that CVD developments start early in childhood and the conditions are then influenced by genetic and other modifiable risk factors and exposure to the environment (Mokdad, et al., 2018). This is, therefore, a clear indication that CVD prevention should begin early in childhood. Identification of the children at risk of CVD is the first step in modifying and preventing these risk factors.
Various factors are leading to the development of CVD. Three of these factors cannot be controlled by individuals. These three factors are gender, genetics and age. The others, such as diet, physical exercises, weight, smoking, and high cholesterol, are modifiable. Environmental exposure is an essential factor for these conditions. The heart and the vascular system are very vulnerable to various environmental agents like air pollution, smoking which advances the diseases and mortality via augmentation or initiation of pathophysiological processes associated. An unhealthy diet, for instance, is one of the causal factors. Diets that are high in saturated fats and cholesterol have been linked to heart diseases for a long time.
The most critical intervention is starting by tackling CVD from the family setting. Every family should complete a questionnaire about the history and the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is here that education can be offered to the family on how the family can stay healthy and stay away from CVD. Lifestyle change can help in fighting the disease. Therefore, education should be provided from the family level to ensure that the families are safe, and eventually, we shall have a safe community. The nurses have a huge responsibility of educating people on the importance of diet. Balanced nutrition is one of the ways that this condition can be overcome. This is because some of the food that we have unhealthy fat that significantly contributes to CVD. Another way is to provide tailored exercise programs that will help reduce weight and enhance a sense of well-being and goals. Regular exercises help improve our cardiovascular health as exercises strengthens the heart by improving its blood pumping capacity throughout the body (Patel, et al., 2017). Cardiovascular aerobics are indispensable in helping us to manage their symptoms of high blood pressure. It is also necessary to know the dangers of staying in an unsafe environment. Through these interventions, it will be easier to tackle the problem of CVD facing Lee County.
In surmise, cardiovascular system disease remains as one of the significant health needs in the Lee community. This therefore calls for collaboration amongst the various teams in the healthcare facilities. Nurse patient relationship is very crucial in the promotion of improved care coordination and proper care outcomes. Effective communication establishes a human connection with the patient. Lee county has a lot of resources that if properly utilized can help better the health of the people. Some of the healthcare facilities that can work together to deliver the best healthcare to the patients include Lee Health, Lee Convenient Care, Lee Community Healthcare. Lee Community Healthcare works with low income families. For example, a family who makes less than 25,000 a year can be seen by a primary care physician for $10 (Lehigh Acres Citizen, 2021). Many families don’t have the resources or the means to follow up with their health and Lee Community Healthcare is a great resource for them to manage their health needs.
