Purpose:

Many

times

we

overlook

the

evidence

and

importance

of

public

health

efforts

in

our

communities,

however

the

evidence

is

all

around

us.

Public

health

has

been

responsible

for

many

improvements

in

health

outcomes

over

the

past

century

and,

as

we

can

see

from

our

exper

ience

with

Covid

-

19,

it

is

a

vital

component

of

health

care

systems.

This

learning

activity

is

to

function

as

an

introduction

to

the

many

faces

of

public

health

in

our

communities.

Instructions:

After

viewing

the

video

“What

is

Public

Health”

in

Youtube,

go

on

a

scavenger

hunt

to

find

your

own

examples

of

public

health

in

your

community

(billboards,

signs,

newspaper

articles

etc).

Scenario:

Family

A

78,

year

old

man

is

retired

banker

longer

feels

safe.

Purpose:

Many times we overlook the evidence and importance of public health

efforts in our communities, however the evidence is all around us. Public

health has been responsible for many improvements in health outcomes

over the past century and, as we can see from our experience with Covid-

19, it is a vital component of health care systems. This learning activity is

to function as an introduction to the many faces of public health in our

communities.

1. Instructions:

After viewing the video “What is Public Health” in Youtube, go on a

scavenger hunt to find your own examples of public health in your

community (billboards, signs, newspaper articles etc). Get PICTURES.

Add a description of the picture and why you think this is a good example

of public health.

3. Apply critical thinking through participation of selected topics

• Engage in thoughtful discourse with peers

• Incorporate topic discussion into clinical judgment and decision

making within the setting

Scenario: Family

A 78, year old man is a retired banker whose wife died several

years ago. He is able to perform all ADLs but needs help with meal

preparation and transportation. He lives in a deteriorating

neighborhood and no longer feels safe. He does not want to live

with family members or completely give up his independence.

Directions:

• The original post must be at least 200 – 300 words in length

• What housing options would be appropriate for him? Why?

• What advantages would such housing options offer over living

alone?
