The field of medicine has always been my point of interest. From watching medical dramas such as Grey’s Anatomy to “Youtubing” medical documentaries, I’ve always been contained myself in the world of Healthcare. After several weeks of researching, I finally reached the conclusion of pursuing my Master’s degree in University of Guelph’s Public health program with IDS specialization. Public health workers have always played an important role in the health care system. Expensive health care problems occurring in future life can be easily prevented earlier in life through proper governments investment in Public Health. Our nation has tremendously improved the health care system with the help of public health care workers. Especially during this pandemic which has ensured the delivery of excellent patient care the public health workers have provided all over the world.

I believe I have the credentials to excel in this program. I graduated from Farmingdale State College in January 2019 with a bachelor’s in Bioscience Program. My coursework and work experience has exposed me to the underlying foundation of how the health care system works. As an undergrad student, my course work consisted of laboratory work and research. After graduation, I finished my internship at a Pharmaceutical company and ended up getting hired as Quality Assurance and Quality Control Specialist. My responsibility as a QA associate was to ensure all products which were being manufactured in the pharmaceutical plant were safe and in a consistent standard. I worked for a global leading pharmaceutical company, working for a global leading company was a different experience because I was dealing with patients from all over the world. Our supply was distributed all around, hence our responsibility was to guarantee the overall quality of the drug, which is why I would like to combine MPH with the IDS specialization.

Looking further back into my earlier years as a student, I had the experience of working as a Laboratory Researcher and acquired technical experience under the direct supervision of the Director of Biology. Generated experimental results, which were graphed through Microsoft Excel within a course of 16 weeks Utilized laboratory equipment such as microscopes, test tubes, centrifuges, Electrophoresis techniques etc. Hence, based on my undergrad experience, I had the opportunity to work as a Quality Control in my Internship period at Cipla before I was hired by the company and I worked under a scientist where my job was to test the raw materials of the drug by using several lab techniques I had learned in my undergrad year as a student.

In 2018, I lost uncle to ALS, a progressive nervous system disease that causes the loss of muscle control. As time went by, he would lose his ability walk, talk or simply lifting a finger. His last few years consisted on depending solely on proper health care service. Although my uncle lost this battle, I remember seeing the health care service he received from all providers that aided him whether he was at home or the hospital. The provided care he received was the only source of ease and comfort. Which is why I feel is important for me to contribute to the patient care and the constant improvement in public health system has ensured patients to live a longer and healthier life.
