Public advocacy is considered to be activities that involve the individuals or groups to influence and offer support to a given cause or policy. It takes place both in public and also in private institutions. Some of the advocacy groups that we have includes the lobbyist and the special interest groups which are helping in advocating in the public realm. In addition, we also have the patient advocates who are based in the hospitals and help in the process of protecting the rights of the patients, In business,we have the nonprofit groups who ensure that consumers are treated fair in the marketplaces. Multiple stakeholder processes are considered to be the process which is aiming at bringing all the key stakeholders together to make some decisions about some particular issues by consulting widely to ensure that the opportunity for the engagement is maximized (Malek, Budhwar & Reiche, 2015).
Identify and research at least two examples of companies that have been impacted by the campaigns of public advocacy groups. What is the value of democratic inputs in business decision making?
The two companies that have been impacted by the campaign of the public advocacy group include companies like Apple and the Koch Company. Apple is an international company that is dealing with the production of the electronics such the iPad, iPhone and televisions. On the other side, Koch Company is also one of the companies that have been impacted by the campaigns of the public advocacy. We have realized that the company deals with the production of the Angel Soft toilet papers and it also deals with the parts of the iPhone. Apple is influenced by the campaigns of the public advocacy that it engages in the policy discussion and discuss matters that are base on their business. Apple clients in some of the areas that include the intellectual property, privacy and also environment. The company is actually trying to ensure that they help in the policy-making of the government to understand their products, their business and the innovation they use (Chai, Kim & Kim, 2018).
We have also realized that Koch Company has also been impacted by the campaigns of the advocacy groups by ensuring that they are have come up with the system to ensure that there is loyalty, honor, personal courage, respect and integrity in the company among the workers and also to the public. The value of democratic inputs in these two companies is actually to ensure that the companies are complying with public policies and regulations that help them to make decisions which are benefiting everyone in the market to ensure that there are a good relationship and good policies for the business and to the public (Epstein, 2018).
Identify and list all of the sustainability stakeholders at Top Shelf. Does each group have equal weight throughout the program development process? When should each be brought into the discussion?
We have realized that the sustainable stakeholder at Top shelf is actually responsible to ensure that they are able solve the unconventional problem and also ensure that there is leadership which is visionary especially when it comes to business. The list of sustainable stakeholders at the Top shelf includes marketing stakeholders, the programming stakeholders, project stakeholder, and the analysis stakeholder. All the stakeholders are responsible to ensure that they are able to determine the most efficient and profitable ways to launch a product and also solve the problems which are external and internal concerning the market challenges (Geissdoerfer, Bocken & Hultink, 2016).
Each group of the stakeholders does not have equal weight through the program development process because each group is a tasked with specific responsibility. In the development process there some of the decisions that need the high profile stakeholders to handle. We have realized that each of the stakeholders should be brought in the discussion when making a general decision to the whole system that requires all input. Each shareholder can also be brought in the discussion when there is a problem that is affecting the whole business and the a proper strategy that should be made out. They can also be brought into discussion when the annual reports are needed and discuss the challenges that have been witnessed so that recommendations can be implemented on the problems (Line, Runyan & Gonzalez-Padron, 2018).
Explain the advantages of implementing a multiple-stakeholder process that significantly influences a company's agenda for sustainability.
The advantages of implementing a Multiple –stakeholder process which is significantly influences the company's agenda for the sustainability is that multiple- stakeholder provides a long line of business experience. The stakeholders who are having a large invested interest in the business assists in sharing experiences that they have in the business world. This helps the company to realize some of the problems that the business is likely to go through and find a way of solving the problems so that they don't affect the business. The experience by the multiple- stakeholders also helps in providing the company with different ideas on different management skills that are supposed to be incorporated in the company (Martin & Rice, 2015).
The other advantage of having multiple-stakeholders in the company is to help in solving anticipated potential problems. The stakeholder will help the owners of the company to anticipate some of the issues that might go wrong in the business. This is because most of the multiple-stakeholders are having different backgrounds and also levels of experiences which would help them to see issues that the owners of the business may not be able to see. The multiple- stakeholders may also have experience with the potential vendors which the company is in need of and they can help the company with the first-hand testimony to work with the vendor and this will make the business to have positive changes that help the company to thrive well in the production a provision of the services (Payne & Calton, 2017).
Describe the challenges in a multiple-stakeholder process for developing a sustainable business plan. Do the interests of one group outweigh the others?
The challenge that involves the multiple-stakeholder process for the development of the sustainable business plan is that the stakeholders may represent their own interest. We have realized that some of the stakeholders may be just focusing their own interest. For instance, external stakeholders such as the political appointees may not have the heart to work to the interest of the company by not offering something genuine that helps the company. Instead they’ll want the company to comply with their personal interest.. We have realized that having multiple-stakeholders can sometimes be a problem because some will vote against a part of the proposals which are very vital to the company because they fear losing money. Then you will find that their focus is based on their financial interest than the needs of the company. Some of the stakeholders feel that their interest should be acted upon immediately in the company which to some extent leads to conflict in the company (Van Esterik, 2017).
The other challenge is that multiple- stakeholders may have blocked progress of developing a sustainable business plan of the company. For example, most of the stakeholders have fear that an action of the business may harm their stock interest which could actually lead to the failure of the business. Resulting to not having harmony in the decision-making process on the vital things and issues that may help in developing the company. One of the challenges that is also common with the multiple stakeholders in developing sustainable business plan is the slow decision making implementation. The different opinions that are coming from the other stakeholders are due to some will want things to be done their way and this complicates the implementation process of the vital proposals made in the business (Malek, Budhwar & Reiche, 2015).
Develop a step-by-step plan for implementing a multiple-stakeholder process. Your plan should assure the credibility of Top Shelf's sustainability plan in the public sphere and also be effective in meeting the goal of sustainability.
The step-by-step plan for implementing a multiple-stakeholder plan involves three steps (Chai, Kim & Kim, 2018).
· The first step is to initiate the process and this involves initiating the objectives and also including the scope of the initiative. Initial analysis of the situation is done at this stage and this involves the stakeholders their interests and expectations. The process also includes establishing the coordination team.
· The other step that involves the process of implementing a multiple-stakeholder plan is to ensure that sustainable collaboration is built. In this process, a consensus is actually built based on the shared vision in future. The process also involves making sure that the consultations and the process that involves decision making are inclusive and participatory. Trust and sharing of the values from each and everyone in the stakeholder is also considered to be key in this case, it also includes embracing the concerns and the interests of the stakeholders. The outcomes should be communicated to the stakeholders frequently so that they can have a good approaching style that is effective.
· The third process of developing multiple-stakeholder implementation process is managing the collaborations which involve the process of ensuring that there are detailed and concrete actions plans and also ensure that relevant sources and support are secured. This also involves developing the capacity and building the existing talent of the multiple-stakeholders who are involved in the company. Managing collaboration also embraces establishing management mechanism which will help in the process of building in conflict resolution mechanism
Suggest metrics for tracking the progress.
Metrics is considered to be the wide variety of the tools which are used by the managers and also executives to help in the process of evaluating the performance of the employees, the services, the products and also the satisfaction of the customers. In this case, the matrix that I would suggest in tracking the process is technology metrics which is the technique that helps in measuring the investment technology, execution, the productivity, quality and the risk compliance because it involves the customer satisfaction, services request an also operation request (Van Esterik, 2017).
