I need help on my group presentation. My part is the introduction to the case “Flint, Michigan Water Crisis”. I have written the situation of the case. But I still need help to do present my part.

Please can you provide me good notes that I can memorize it and do my presentation?

My part should not exceed 2 mints describing the situation.

1. SITUATION: Briefly describe the situation that set up the ethical dilemma. List the stakeholders in the decision and the ethical considerations that require their equities to be taken into account.  Describe those equities.

Here is my answer to the case:

The situation, in this case, is the residents’ cry of lead-contaminated water running into their pipes. The residents of Flint are using contaminated water for their daily needs. The polluted water is a health hazard to them and their children. They are at risk of suffering a wide range of health concerns including lifelong diseases. According to the residents, the water looked dirty and was smelly. In most times, the water was brown and had a strange taste, different from the normal one. This raised concerns and the locals demanded action be taken.

This whole issue started when the management of Flint switched its water sources from Lake Huron to the Flint River (Ganim & Tran, 2016). This was a move to save money. Initially, the town used to pay for the water to the city of Detroit. The switch was actually meant to save money since no payments would be made if the water came from the Flint River. However, the water from the Flint River was dirty and this was well known to the residents; in fact, some of them did not believe that the switch could actually be made. As much as the authorities insisted that the water was safe, it was not. Even industries stopped using the water because they believed that it could damage the quality of their products.

Due to the extreme impact of the lead-contaminated water, it was necessary for an action to be taken to ensure that the people of Flint are supplied with safe water (Ganim & Tran, 2016). The stakeholders involved the healthcare department, the governor, and the locals. They all agreed that the water was unsafe and it was necessary for an alternative to be found. It was agreed that it was better for the water to be expensive but safe than cheap and unsafe.

Water is one of the most basic commodities that anybody needs. Without water, literally, there will be no life. Water is used for virtually everything and everywhere. From households to industries. Taking this into account, it is necessary to make sure that the water is of the right quality. Basically, the quality of water directly affects the quality of life. As seen in the case, the residents of Flint do not live a healthy life basically because of the water that they use. Their children are also at risk of suffering various health complications in their later stages in life due to the led in the water.

It is the responsibility of the authorities and relevant agencies to make sure that they provide the people with the right water. They should not only focus on the issue of cost-cutting, but also the impact of their actions on the people. Additionally, should there be a need, they should be quick to act to make sure that the impact is minimized as much as possible. Through this, they will be able to save lives.
