Reiki as Alternative Healing Modality

Reiki has been recognized globally for its therapeutic approaches in relation to energy. The Reiki practitioners have often utilized the approach of placing their hands on their patients to enhance the energy transmission process. The Reiki energy tool is believed to have been to be the purest and strongest of all life forces that mediate the healing in clients. In the modern world, different Reiki faithful can be evident across various socioeconomic sectors apart from the psychology. For instance, hospitals, churches, beauty parlors, and new age healers among others who strongly believe that they are improving the lives of others by utilizing the Reiki power. Most Reikians have been challenged in the process of developing substantial knowledge and authorized accessibility to spiritual dominions or demonic captivities to exercise their faith. Such a consideration has limited their ability to draw people towards God because they cannot account for the truth in the world realities.

The life force impacted on the client through the Reiki therapist allows their body to relax and activate the natural processes of healing. The approach to the use of the hand in channeling the energy to the body of the victim will necessitate for healing and does not deplete the energy of the provider. The principle works best of faith since the person being healed has to believe in the power of Reiki (human, 2017). Reikians have resorted to mutual good for every individual in the society that will enhance the power of healing. The basis of the Reikian faith is abstracted from the how the spiritual world operates; where evil seems to have a greater influence and opportunity in connecting to different individuals. The system of healing employed by Reikians follows the principles used in bestowing energy from Satan and demons in the population. Historically, the initial development of Reiki power was employed to the poor in Japan who could not afford the commercial means of treatment. Upon the satisfactory response from the disadvantaged in the community, the founder of Reiki energy began training other individuals on how the healing power was to be appropriated before it expanded to other nations outside Japan. Currently, the number of Reiki masters and practitioners has expanded across the world due to the increased awareness and positive aspects of healing. Reiki powers have been applied in both clinical and non-clinical fields by professionals like psychotherapists, nurses, physical therapists, massage therapists, and physicians among others.

During the process of Reiki training, an individual can easily and quickly gran the concepts since it does not require meditation or coursework but mastery of principles from the Reiki master. The first level of learning the healing power of Reiki is offering the energy to oneself, preceded by the introduction of symbols to maintain the sacred atmosphere and enhance connection with the power. In such a consideration, an individual is entitled to be a Reiki practitioner. Through the advanced practice of the powers, one will acquire the state of high-frequency Reiki energy that can deliver healing to clients. The last part of Reiki training is the master level, where one has to familiarize with more symbols and attunement if the healing energy that can to do in a class by the Reiki organizations across the world. Besides, through the training, one is likely to acquire a multidimensional approach to the healing mechanisms to enable quality outcomes. The flow of life energy or ‘ki’ throughout the body will enable the healing process yet compromising the energy at a certain point might hinder the success of the mechanism.

Flow diagram of the descriptive research design

The principal objective of Reiki is to allow the body to gain its favorable healing conditions to allow for the free flow of energy. In such a consideration, the body will have the opportunity to initiate its natural healing processes freely through the touch of the hand. The role of the Reiki practitioner is to allow the client to receive a relaxed state by laying hands on them or providing distance treatment by channeling the life energy to the patient. Clinical applications of Reiki energy have been growing the Western culture as a complementary and alternative approach to medicine because it provides a holistic healing process. Reiki techniques have been utilized in the management of physical and emotional pain and stress. Physicians have recommended touch therapies as an option for medical treatment in anxiety depression stressful experiences, loss of memory, and palliative and oncological care among others. Such a move shows the significance of Reiki in clinics, hospitals among other hospice settings. The need for Reiki teachings among caregivers and patients has been enhanced in the modern world to improve individual’s wellbeing.

Base on the hypothesis of the study, the use of Reiki energy in healing through touch as a viable mechanism of treatment is cannot be compared to normal medical interventions against anxiety, depression among others conditions (Salking, 2012). The utilization of Reiki principles as an alternative modality of healing is founded on the ability of the master or practitioner to channel life energy into the patient by laying hands or slightly hovering to activate the therapeutic power. Upon activation of the Reiki power, a natural process of healing will take control in restoring the emotional and physical health of the client.

In the study methodology, descriptive research methods can be employed, especially the non-experimental. The choice of the research methodology will be appropriate for the test of the null hypothesis because it utilizes the ethical considerations in the healing process as opposed to an experimental design that is not achievable in the study. The descriptive research will emphasize on the maintaining safety of the human subjects who will participate in the research through direct observations, case study, and surveys. With the data collected, quantitative research design will be applied to assist in the accepting or rejecting the null hypothesis of study from the statistical analyses.

Data collection for the process will be done after samples are taken from the Reiki clinics and modern healing clinics. For ethical concerns, the participants in the target populations will be selected on a voluntary basis to allow for the easy participation in the study. From the volunteers, random selection will be carried out to avoid biases in the collected information. The participants will be subjected to observations and surveys in additions to structured questions for the exit interviews. The research participants will have an informed consent for their contribution to the study that can seek approval from relevant administration, parent or guardian. The quantitative data will be collected based on the following variables; personal history and background, treatment history, possible parental or caregiver influence, parental issues associated with psychological illness, substance abuse, medical precursors, unusual behaviors, and any victimization.

The survey questions will be formulated to help in the inquiry and provision of detailed information on patients before and after going through the Reiki healing program. The study questions will be reviewed to ensure they do not have any content that might hinder the participant from providing vital information. The confidentiality of the respondents will be maintained to ensure trust and effective responses. The survey questionnaires will only be provided to the control group and no interactive session will be allowed till the process is completed. The collected data will be analyzed through linear regression to assist in quantification and reflection on the null hypothesis by producing a coefficient of determination. The statistical research method will provide an intercept in the dependent and independent variables by indicating a non-linear or linear relationship between Reiki and modern healing strategies on emotional and physical health.
