Psychological Experiments - Milgram Obedience Study

Question a

Different individuals will experience varying challenges when filling the Mock IRB Application-Part 1. This is basically because individuals have varying abilities and therefore, they will perceive a particular section as either easy or hard based on their abilities to understand. However, as for my case, I also encountered certain challenges while filling the application. However, the challenges were also varying depending on the section of the application. I found that the most challenging section for this Mock IRB Application-part 1 was Section F. This section was challenging according to me because specific, as well as particular details, were needed, the section further needed extensive research as compared to other sections that only needed a small or even no research. The section generally presented questions that incorporated the detail that had to be researched.

Additionally, this section was also challenging because the section mainly focused on the analysis of data; any statistician would bear witness that data analysis is always time-consuming, and it also requires sound mind and criticality of the mind. Looking at the data analysis presented in this section, one can see that numerous data analysis methods were utilized in the section of this application. Such methods included surveys, observations, audio, video, among other methods. In this regard, therefore, it was necessary to detail and looked at each of the methods, and this makes the entire process challenging in general.

Moreover, a part from that specific section, section C of the application also seemed somehow challenging. The section requiring the specification of the risks is also a challenge owing to the fact that for the person filling the information to pick a proper answer for this, he/she need to have answered first two sections and then to have internalized or understood the process, that is the only way a proper answer can be given, however, I feel the first two sections might not have enough information to lead to a correct answer in this part C. This therefore means that the section might provide somewhat a challenge depending on the individual taking th4e application.

Question b.

After extensive reading of the article, I did not see any section of the Mock IRB Application-Part 1 that the author failed to address adequately. According to my opinion and analysis of the sections of the article, I believe that each section of the Mock IRB Application-Part 1 was adequately addressed by the authors. This is because each of the sections of the application incorporated a comprehensive coverage of the study besides asking all essential and pertinent questions that were relevant.

Therefore, my commend about this application part-1 is well, effectively and adequately written and further provided the adequate and comprehensive address of all essential aspects that had to be addressed.

Question c.

Because I have already assessed that all the questions were addressed adequately by the authors, therefore, being the Principal Investigator, I would require additional information in specific questions such as question B2, which is the Introduction. From the requirement of the paper, a 350 – 500-word summary of the study was needed. Looking at the number of words and the topic being tackled, I think that this is not enough to capture everything and to address all important aspects of the topic/study.

Therefore, being the Principal Investigator, I would request more or additional wordings that would sufficiently tackle the entire aspects and factors of the study. The introduction, though it has to be brief, it has to capture the entire sections of the project, however, with the words limits instructed here, I feel that it might not be possible to provide a look into the entire section, only scanty information might be provided. If I were the principal investigator therefore, the best thing I could do is to remove the limitation and instead ask for an adequate introduction to be provide, that way I think it gives the person filling the application the freedom to talk about all the aspects of the study and hence providing adequate required information. However, generally, I think that this Mock IRB Application part-1 is generally perfect.

Question d.

Situation changes and life is generally a dynamic process, and it changes every time. Ethical standards, in a similar way, keep on changing depending on the situation under consideration. The ethical standard is the application in many situations, including study /research. However, in consideration of this study, I think it is typically unethical.

However, I think that the ethical standards due to its dynamic nature have changed from the time this study was conducted. Over time now, a lot of concentration is on making the study ethical while ensuring that the study can meet the various ethical standards. Some sections of this study would be considered unethical, and therefore, the study could not have any reliability if it is to be done currently/today. Generally, ethical standards have changed, and now there are various regulations of these studies, and various concentration and emphasis are now being channeled on the studies to ensure that they are ethical and able to meet all ethical standards.
