1. Select a published journal article using WCJC library’s database Open Athens.

Search the Psychology & Behavioral Sciences collection. Select the following criteria: Full Text, Peer Reviewed, between 2016-2021 The article needs to focus on at least 1 topic found within the course text. Examples include: depression, anxiety, shyness, attractiveness, ADHD, stress, bullying, social networking, self-esteem, marriage, divorce, retirement, and psychoactive drug use. Do not use an article that is a “meta-analysis” or utilizes “Psyc Info,” “Medline,” “PubMed,” or another research database. If the article uses those unapproved databases, it will likely mention it in the Methods and/or Measures/Procedures sections. The article you select MUST: -Have a Method, Results, and Discussion section -Conduct new research (within the Method/Measures/Procedure section), not merely summarizing other people’s research in the entire article -Be a Correlational or Experimental design study (Review notes from chapter 2 and APA workshop) -Be at least 5 pages of text (excluding tables, charts, graphs, and references) -Be something you can explain in your own words/paraphrase once reading it a few times Read your article several times to confirm comprehension. Save the article as a .PDF with document name “YourLastName Journal Article” Finding and submitting an article (when you turn the assignment in) that meets these guidelines is worth 25 points

2. The purpose of this paper is to paraphrase the journal article. You will explain the main points of the article in your own words to demonstrate understanding and comprehension. Make sure when you paraphrase you utilize professional tone and proofread. No direct quotations are allowed, so the entire paper must be paraphrased. Appropriate citation should be included within the body of the paper and Reference Page. Your summary of the journal article should address the following areas of the article (if they are not listed here, you will not address them within the paper- call, text, or email me if you need to clarity): *Overview of experiment: discussion of literature found within the Introduction section of the article (previous studies that led the current researchers to pursue this new research); The current study: what is the hypothesis, what type of experiment (correlational or experimental- be sure to explain why it is that type of article), and what are the variables examined? Worth 50 points *Method section- what is the population, who were the participants (age, gender, ethnicity, etc.)- interpret the data (see APA workshop for help with this), how were they selected, what were the measurements used (data collection methods), clarify any terms related to the study (operational definitions), and procedure (what was done- surveys given, observations, etc.) Worth 25 points

*Discussion section- general discussion of the results (found within the “Discussion” section of article: conclusions that are made- was the hypothesis true, null, or undetermined) and what do the results mean (basic explanation)? What were the limitations of the study? How can it be improved in the future (these areas will likely be addressed within the article- if they aren’t, you need to create them by utilizing critical thinking) Worth 50 points

3. You must also include in-text citation and a Reference page in APA format. The Reference page does not count as part of the page count. In-text citation is required to avoid plagiarism. Even when you put information in your own words, you must cite the source you read the information from. Every single paragraph MUST have in-text citation. If you fail to cite in-text and or include a reference page, you will earn MAJOR point deductions, up to a ZERO for plagiarism. A Reference page is required to cite your single source. Please review the APA workshop and video for an explanation of APA citation and helpful resources. Citation is worth 25 points 4. The format of the paper must be typed with 1-inch margins, double-spaced, 12-point Calibri or Times New Roman, and 2.5 - 4 pages in length. Do not use direct quotations. If you directly quote, I will not grade those sentences. All information within your writing must be paraphrased. Do not use first person (I, you, we, etc.) within your writing. For help with avoiding first person speech and improving professional tone, please reference the APA Workshop. Formatting and Grammar are worth 25 points.
