1. In the first column on the next tab, you will see a list of answers to the question in the upper left-most cell of the spreadsheet. Develop a way to code or categorize the responses based on a review of the responses. The idea is to come up with categories that summarize the data in an informative way. Question: What is the most pressing concern for you and your family in the coming year?

Responses:

My husband has been laid off for 6 months. So that's my biggest worry. It stresses him out and my kids too.

We have a foundation issue. It's a brand-new house but it's not settling properly. The builder has been out here a bunch of times and keeps telling us it will be corrected but it hasn't been yet.

I would have to say bills.

Our car is on the fritz. We're going to need to replace that and I don't know where the money will come from.

We had a rough year last year but I think things have cleared up. Now I'm looking forward to a better year. So right now? Nothing.

My work just released a new health insurance package. I have no idea what it means. My son is special needs so I'm worried about what our coverage will look like.

I was just diagnosed with cancer. We're still trying to figure out what I need to do and what that means.

I would say our biggest concern is for my sister. She has an addiction and we don't know where she is right now. I'm really worried about her.

Guns worry me. I think we need to do something right now.

Nothing, that I can think of.

Stress.

I don't have any concerns at this point.

I don’t know if my kids are safe at school. All these school shootings… Things are just crazy right now.

My mother is sick and I don't know what we'll do with her. She may need a nursing home or come to live with us.

I am worried about what will happen if we fall off the fiscal cliff. I can't afford to pay higher taxes.

We need to figure out where the kids will go to school. My oldest is going into middle school and I don't know how good the public school near us is.

My job is uncertain. We've made it through the recession ok so far but I'm worried that we can't hold out much longer. If I don’t have a job, we can't pay our mortgage.

My dad died last year and my mom is a mess. I don’t know what to do with her. We don't have room here but I worry about whether she will take care of herself.

I took a pay cut last year. Now it's hard to figure out how to pay the bills. Things are a little crazy right now.

My daughter is having some issues at school. She's not been behaving and we can't figure out why.

There are a lot of repairs that need to be made around the house.

My sons has been having some problems. He was a straight-A student before and now his grades have dropped and he doesn't listen to us.

Nothing really, I expect next year to be even better than the year before.

Hmm… what are we concerned about… well, our car is kind of on its last leg… so I guess that will have to be replaced next year.

I have a lot of medical bills from a surgery last year. We have a lot to pay for.

I'm concerned about global warming. It seems like the weather is getting crazier and crazier. We need to take action now.

My daughter is getting married next year! So we will be focused on that. I'm helping her plan and of course we're paying for most of it. But I really like her fiancé - he's like a member of our family. They've been dating forever. So that's what we'll be focused on in the coming year.

The environment.

I lost my job two months ago. I have put out a lot of resumes but haven't heard back.

We plan to move to a bigger house next year. So we need to fix some things up here, look for a new place, and figure out how we move from one place to another smoothly. Fun, fun, fun.

Well, the school report cards just came out and my son's elementary school did not do well. So that's a concern for me.

I'm worried about Obamacare! I can't believe he was re-elected. We don't need socialized medicine.

I don't know. I guess I would say I worry about… hmm. I don't know.

My son has moved back into the house - he left college and didn't get a job. I'm pretty worried about how that will work out.

What's that any of your business?

I don't know… my husband is really stressed out about his work right now. He's been traveling a lot and has just had to much to do. That's better than the alternative, I guess.
