Final paper
Personal Changes PSY 4940 Unit 8
Introduction
Within this module we will be discussing how far you have come since the start of your educational process. Think about the last several years and all the time and effort you have put into your education. Think about all the changes that have personally taken place in the last several years. To quote a famous saying "You have come a long way baby" and you have accomplished what you set out to do and that is to earn your undergraduate degree.
Throughout your studies you have gained valuable insights not only into the field of psychology but also into yourself. You are a different person, not only more educated with content and able to apply content more confidently but you are more mature in your overall thinking process and your personal behavior. Knowing the content from your classes has been the easier part, becoming the person you truly want to be and are proud of who you have become just might have been the more difficult part of your educational process.
College has been about content acquisition but it has also been about growing as a person. You started your educational process eager to learn and acquire content but you also started your educational process eager to grow as a person. It is now time to think about the person you have become, how much more improvement you want on yourself and how to achieve it. We never stop learning and we never stop working on ourselves, it is a life-long process. A life-long process that will make you not only healthy in body and mind but allow you to achieve your goal of whatever happiness and success means to you.
Who Am I Now?
You have been quite busy these past several years that you may not have had the time to stop and truly think about the person you are now. This module affords you the opportunity to think about who you are, where you have been and who do you want to be as you transition through life. Complete this following exercise with an honest appraisal of your thoughts and your actions. It might surprise you or you might find out that you know yourself pretty well. You will do this exercise twice. The first time jot down how you think other people see you. Be honest with yourself, put yourself into each context and truly think about your thoughts and actions within each environment. Once you are done with that then go back to each contextual situation and think about how you actually see yourself. This exercise can be tricky because sometimes we see ourselves one way and others see us another way. If you would like you can have a friend or family member complete the first half of how they see you in each of those contexts, as long as they are within each of the three contexts with you. The key is to be honest with yourself as you think about each context and who are you within in context.
Class/school environment: Think about how your classmates see you in class. Think about not only your participation level but think about your demeanor, your attitude, your motivation and your behavior and gestures that you express in class. Home/family & friend environment: Think about how your family and friends see you. Think about your compassion, empathy, interaction level, agreeableness, attitude, tone when speaking with others, encouragement towards others and your behavior and gestures towards others. Work environment: Think about how your co-workers see you. Think about your interaction level, your commitment to your position, attitude, responsibility level, acceptance of responsibility, timeliness, dedication as well as your overall behavior and gestures towards others.
After you have completed the exercise with how others see you and how you see yourself now compare them. Are the answers the same, is it the way you truly want to be viewed not only by others but by yourself. In other words, are you the person you want to be? Are you happy with yourself at this time? Do you think you can be

better? Do you want to work on an area? These answers take honesty from within but once you can reflect upon your past actions and look at your present actions, then you can change any future actions that you feel need to be adjusted so you can truly become the person you want to be.
Change
Change is inevitable and you have changed from the start of your educational journey until now. You will continue to change once you graduate and transition into your next phase of life more changes will take place. We never stop changing and evolving, that is what makes us alive and motivated to move forward in our lives. However, some people deal with change differently. Dependent upon the change some people are able to embrace it while others push it away. How do you deal with change? Have your actions of how you deal with change differed from the start of your educational process until now or are your methods still the same? Are you comfortable and content with the way you deal with change? Do you think your method of dealing with change affects you in a negative manner or do you think it is compatible with your lifestyle?
Who Moved My Cheese was the required book for you to read within this course. It is hoped you have read it throughout the course however, if not then within this module you are responsible to read it for your content assessment. The book is about change and how we deal with change. It is relayed through various characters in the book and you are to read the book and see what character you relate to. What character do you see yourself as? It might surprise you when you read the book and see the actions of each character and then think about how you deal with change and its impact to your life.
Graduation
The course is ending as is your educational journey, at least for now for some of you. You will be graduating soon and you will be transitioning into another chapter in your life. Graduation is an exciting time but it can also be a scary intimidating time, as you embark on your life. A few key words of wisdom are to be true to yourself, always strive for the best that you can be. Never be scared of trying; you have tried and succeeded with your education. Not everyone can say that. Be proud of your accomplishments, be ready to take on more challenges, and don't settle. You can do more than you actually think you can do. Seize the day, seize your life, and go for it.
