As a nurse practicing within a family practice, you are i hinterviewing a 55-year-old woman who is an executive assistant at a local law firm, where she has worked for 9 years.[0] ... She has a 7-year history of respiratory illness, which occurs several times throughout the year, not seemingly connected to the changes in season.[0] ... She does not use tobacco products in any form.[0] ... During your questions regarding her home and work environments, she reports that she enjoys working adjacent to the courthouse in a building over 100 years old because it is such a contrast to her brand-new home on a local golf course.[0] ... When describing the health of her coworkers, she indicates, “[0] ...We all share illnesses, which seem to affect everyone else during the year;[0] ... we just seem to be sicker more often![0] ...”

What information is pertinent to your client’s case?[0] ... “Environmental health transmits to the quality of the air, land, water as well as environments to which individuals come into contact”. This relates to the relevant information to

the client’s case which would be her respiratory illness which is chronic with occurrence of several times throughout the year.[19] [0] ... A way to assess the clients environmental risk could be through Investigating, Present work, Residence, Environmental concerns, Past work, Activities, Referrals, Resources and Educate (also known as I-PREPARE mnemonic) in order to determine current and past environmental exposure. This environmental assessment can be done in functional locations such as home, school, workplace and community. According to this case, there is a need for this environmental assessment to be done since each location is likely to have unique environmental and overlapping exposures. In our patients’ case, the assessment should mainly be done in her work place however, community and home should also be assessed. Another way to assess this would be reviewing web-based data on existing exposures.
