Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design or CPTED is actually the principles of designing set utilized for the discouraging the physical crimes and it is meant to promote the building security. As the name is suggesting it is used for crime preventing with the help of the environmental designing and securing the architectural designing. To understand the concept behind it is important to understand its properties and the buildings get secured through it.

The buildings security must be secured through the designing of the buildings through designing it with the damage prevention with using the elements through which forces could be maintained and natural disasters could be avoided. (Lim, 2017) The designing must be done for preventing the crimes.  The CPTED working and principles depends on anticipating through thinking like the offender who could be the potentially responsible for breaking the security. The environmental creation must be done in a way through which the offenders could be discouraged. The crime prevention is meant for adding the advantageous to creating the security sense in the building which could give the tenants of the building and employees of the organization well-being. As CPTED architectural designing is used in the organization of environment to practice, the surroundings and buildings remain secured through the criminal behaviour and also it is meant for encouraging honest citizens because they keep observing the building and keep mitigating the criminal attempts. The crime analysis could done through the CPTED principles which could be taken up as the measure of physical security for instance like, implementation of CCTV for natural surveillance, putting fences or the maze entrances for controlling accessing, the security system signage through reinforcing based on the territorial basis and maintenance of security. (Kang & Jung, 2017)

The designing of the CPTED are done to construct new buildings and architecture, these programs reduced the percentage of the robberies from eighty percent approx. to about thirty percent.

The CPTED or the Crime Prevention through the Environmental Design can be understood as the urban strategical planning to improve the safety in the cities. The primary objective of the CPTED is for deterring the potential criminals through the modification of the unban cities environment. The CPTED has its use in the renovation of the declining places or neighbourhoods which suffer through any kind of crime. (Davey et al., 2005)

            The CPTED is used for designing the security into infrastructure or architecture, its designing depends upon the building of the environment for reducing the crime based on stranger predatory. This approach is different from the traditional one as it depends upon the techniques like surveillance, territorial reinforcement, access control based on natural basis. It could be used for the normal as well as natural use of environment for meeting the security objectives like the technical and physical methods for protection does. There are various strategies used by the CPTED like the electronic methods in which the intrusion detection, electronic access, electronic monitoring, alarm and its controls are used. The architectural methods used the site planning. Designing and layout for the signage, landscaping and the control on the circulation. The organizational methods use the security guards, police, neighbourhood, manpower etc. The strategies of the CPTED creates inconvenience to end users and it is more effective when the CPTED works with the efforts of the designers of the environment, community activities, land managers it gives wonderful results. (Ju & Lee, 2017)

            The CPTED works for the deterrence of the crimes through its working as it relies to the changes made on the environment working physically which could cause the offender for making the changes which will include in the crime desisting. These changes are developed for crafting the behaviour encouragement and so it should be deterred than just preventing the crime behaviour.
