“ONE VISIT. ONE DOSE. ADDICTION.”

Intro & PSA

The drug war is a problem that spans across the whole continent, as drug consumption is a multi-billion dollar industry both legally and illegally.

This issue is very relevant as we live in a border city with Mexico, which sees much of the entrance of illegal drugs into the U.S.

There are many reasons why drugs are in such high demand, providing a market for drugs, but this PSA will focus on the opioid crisis in the United States.

Mexico is the number one supplier of heroin, and the United States the top consumer. (Stratfor, 2011)

What were some difficulties?

Deciding on a specific topic, creating an effective video that will convey our message, and finding enough time to work on all of the assignment.

With our topic being on drugs, the options were infinite and could be very general and vague. Therefore, we chose to target a specific problem down to the core and talk about a topic that can be very controversial but has a lot of base.

Choosing the story or content that would be in our video was tricky, we tried to achieve a story which reflects other stories that are occurring around the world. We had to be able to convey a clear and direct message with the correct elements in a short amount of timing without compromising the theme of the PSA.

Time was also a big difficulty. Being that we are on the last weeks of the semester, motivation is not at its highest, and with work and other personal compromises, finding a time where we were all free was challenging because the amount of time we all had free wasn’t a lot, therefore, we had to use our time wisely.

Conclusion

In conclusion the opioid crisis has been caused by facilitating access to drugs through different drug organizations, like the pharmaceutical industry. Many of the drug abuse epidemics have all commenced with prescriptions containing high dozes of very potent drugs such as opioids like; codeine, oxycodin, and percocets. (Golub, et al. 2015) Because of profits that certain medicine professionals gain from prescribing these drugs this epidemic has been a long lasting one. As a society we ought to be more informed about any and all types of medication, help those who suffer of addiction to any kinds of drugs, and push for awareness to try and avoid for the drug epidemic to keep growing and save more lives around the world.
