Case Assessment

Student is able to accurately identify and discuss what type of data is a particular personality test provides, and how the test might be used to assess a client.

A minimum of two peer reviewed references are included in the case assessment.

The hypothetical case discussion should include a paragraph discussion addressing the following:

1. Referral question for personality assessment

2. Demographic information for your potential client, including ethnicity, age, gender, socioeconomic status, and level of education

3. Background data regarding the client’s current level of functioning and presenting problem(s)

4. The discussion of the assessment process should include information about the administration and interpretation of the personality assessment tool. Student should consider professional competencies that reflect the professional characteristics, culture of the work setting and how these practices are essential to an effective multicultural competency environment.  This assignment should demonstrate an understanding of the learning concepts in unit 8.

Case study description

Include the following demographic and personal information for your hypothetical subject: fictional name, age, ethnicity, gender, marital status, number of children, educational level and income level.

Clearly describe the client’s presenting problem. Why are they being referred for a personality assessment? What personality disorder might they have?

Be sure to clearly discuss the client’s current level of function and presenting problem. What are their symptoms?

Case study questions – Use AT LEAST 2 peer reviewed sources for this section; you may number these if you like.

1. What is the most appropriate personality instrument for evaluating the primary presenting problem? Be sure to select an adult personality test (see p.30). Include information about how the personality assessment is administered and interpreted. What kind of data do you get from that specific test?

2. What are the strengths regarding what this instrument can tell us about the client and his/her issues? What type of data can this test provide?

3. Why is this the most appropriate instrument? (Be sure to include appropriate reference to source materials.)

4. What are the limitations of what this instrument can tell us about the client?

5. Discuss some of the concerns or issues that might arise in a workplace setting with an individual who has this personality disorder. Elaborate on how this disorder could affect the workplace culture/climate in regards to behavior, interpersonal and group interactions, and productivity.

6. In your discussion of the assessment process, including administration and interpretation, consider professional competencies that reflect the professional characteristics, culture of a given work setting and how these practices are essential to an effective multicultural competency environment.

1. Describe the primary reason why many organizations include integrity testing during the process of hiring new employees.

2. Describe the differences between overt integrity tests and personality-based integrity tests, including when an organization would choose one over the other type.

3. Discuss the guidance the author provides in regards to fairness and adverse impact from integrity tests.
