PS 202, Winter 2019

Extra Credit

Students may earn extra credit by attending a pre-approved political or campus activity and writing a short paper about the experience.

Possible events that could be used include: 1) political forums related to local, state, and federal offices, 2) presentations or speeches by activists, politicians, or experts; 3) social action activities that occur off campus, and 4) movies or other performances that have social messages or significance.

YOU MUST GET THE INSTRUCTORS APPROVAL OF THE ACTIVITY BEFORE YOU ATTEND IN ORDER TO GET EXTRA CREDIT. But the instructor will be flexible on the types of events that can count.

Your report on the event must be turned in within one week of the event.

The short paper must include the following:

1) The date and place of the vent;

2) the name of the sponsor of the event;

3) the names of the leading participants or speakers;

4) a summary of what happened that includes some interesting details;

5) your personal reaction to the event – how it influenced your thoughts or feelings and whether it might influence your behavior.

Scoring: Proper grammar and spelling and thematic organization are expected. Papers will be graded according to whether they address the required elements above and the quality of the writing.

Papers should be approximately two double-spaced pages.

Points: This can be done twice. Each paper can be worth up to 25 points.

Monday, March 6, 2019 at the start of class IS THE LAST DAY ANY EXTRA CREDIT IS ACCEPTED.
