This year is my third year of study abroad in the US. The experience of studying abroad allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of different culture, which is of great help for me to bring new inspirations.

I am always impressed with the Korean film industry. “Miracle in Cell No. 7”, “Hope” and other movies have left me with an extraordinary impression. Unlike Hollywood movies, there are often no big action scenes in Korean dramas. The attraction of Korean film is humanity and emotion that shows. The feelings in these movies always make my face full of tears, especially the love between family members remind me of my parents in my hometown. So I have always been very curious about Korean movies. I hope this exchange will give me some new understanding of Korean film.

A year ago I made a video about a girl Fall into danger in a taxi. During that time, I saw many incidents that happened to young girls when they walk along, which gives me an idea to make this video. Last semester I made a simple video as class assignment. That video was about the child’s nightmare when she was left home by her parents along for a night. While I research relate stories for that video. I saw a reports about left-behind children. There are nearly seven million left-behind children in China. Their parents go out to work and return only once a year. These children are mostly boarding in their grandparents or other relatives' homes. The data I found online showed that 22.7% of the left-behind children hardly talk to their parents. 44.8% of children have an Internet addiction, alcoholism, and fighting. 28.3% of children do not obey parental discipline. Since that, I began to think about making a short film about left-behind children. However, when I conceived, I will encounter many difficulties. The biggest difficulty is that I don't know how to make this kind of topic interesting. This is why I really like Korean movies. Like a movie “The Crucible”, although the story is cruel, the interaction between several protagonists is moving. The skill of finding the touching point from these serious social problems is exactly what I need.

I learned a lot about film art in PCC last semester, but I also hope to gain some different knowledge from the Asian film industry. Western art is more avant-garde and more unrestrained. The art of the East is more reserved and restrained. I consider applying to this exchange program because it is not only a renowned seat of learning where I can acquire advanced professional skills and communicated innovative minds, but more because I value its emphasis on never setting a limitation to human curiosity and imagination. I believe these qualities are crucial for being a qualified film producer.
