Proposal Outline

I. Purpose

A. The purpose of the paper is to discuss common cultural barrier in communication that affects both personal and professional relationships 1. By identifying cultural barriers in communication, it is possible to determine ways by which these obstacles can be overcome.

II. Problem

A. Language, symbols, and religion are among the most common cultural barriers in communication (Ortiz, 2016). 1. Language and even dialect can make people misunderstand each other.

2. Symbols expressed through non-verbal language often differ from culture to culture. 3. Religion can affect communication because of prejudices.

III. Solution A. Addressing the causes of cultural misunderstandings can help improve intercultural communication. 1. When learning other’s people language or learning about their customs and religion, it is less likely that misunderstanding due to cultural differences will occur.

IV. Conclusion

A. Cultural misunderstandings can impair communication for which they must be challenged. 1. Because language, cultural symbols, and religions are among the most cultural barriers to communication, people should try learning about others' languages, cultures, and religions.
