Our research: HOW TO IMPROVE THE ART SCHOOL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI.

Why do we want to improve the art school? (The problems)

The art school is far from the main coral gables campus. Many students have classes at the art school and the main coral gables campus including many elementary courses. Students should take the school bus or drive their own car to go from the main campus to the art school which will spend about ten mins. For students who take buses have to walk to the bus station waiting for the bus which spends a few mins. Sometimes especially in the morning and the afternoon, there are a lot of people on the bus and the density of school buses is small so that students should spend more time on waiting which can make students late for classes and affect the attendance of students. For students who drive their own car to go from the art school to the main campus. They also have to drive about ten mins on the road. Students who drive car should buy the permit for parking that includes different colors meaning different part of parking and the color of the art school is different from the color of the main campus which means they have to pay at least one part parking fee. The parking of the art school is very small which is about a quarter of the business parking part and park a lot of vehicles which are not students’ and professor’.

Students are hard to find a vacancy to parking so that they have to pay more money to park on the street, sometimes, there is also no parking space on the street which is inconvenient for students who have classes at the art school. The art school is not connected with The Lowe Art Museum which is at the main campus. Going to the museum for referencing is cumbersome for art major’s students.

The Levante building and the rainbow building which are two main building for the art school are also disconnected from each other. Students who take art classes sometimes should go through the road to go from the Levante building to rainbow building for classes that is unsafe for students because there are no traffic lights between Levante Ave which contains the Levante buildings and Sagua Ave which contains the rainbow buildings.

The style of the art school is monotonous. The exterior of the art school has no characteristics which do not look like a building for the art school. The classifies of the lecture room, the office and the manual room are disordered. The office and the department of technology are dispersive.

How do we improve the art school?

The University of Miami can do some creative idea about the building of the art school, for example, adding some graffiti to make the building have more ambiance of literature and art.

Increasing the size of the art school and make connections to the main coral gabels campus. Eg. adding the density of the school bus.

Improving the security coefficient for the art school, eg. adding the pilot lamp crossroad or make the Leveta Ave to a university road which means adding doorkeeper to limit some cars to go.
