Problem statement Twitter is responsible for moderating its content. This is a problem because some Twitter users will believe the numerous false tweets posted every day, and Twitter isn’t dealing with these tweets quickly enough. Background & evidence Twitter has been taking action on misinformation by tagging tweets as the topic being disputed or the tweet being incorrect. Through twitter comments on these posts, people are still believing in the misinformation even with Twitter’s action on preventing it. Policy solutions or alternatives
● Govt. Intervention- Govt. takes full control of social media to successfully manage users’ information.
● Official Govt. Policy- Twitter must abide by policies the government puts in place to protect users’ information.
● User Filter- Users can choose what information they want to filter. ● 3 Branches of Social Media- Just like the 3 branches of government there will be
something similar for social media so there can be checks and balances so certain companies can’t step over boundaries.
● More warnings surrounding the validity of Twitter as an information source. Audience or Stakeholders
● The client of the problem is Twitter users in the United States that are being affected by misinformation that is being moderated by Twitter.
● One stakeholder for this problem is Twitter who is responsible for moderating the content on their platform to reside within the regulations that the government provides.
● The government is also a stakeholder as they are responsible for making the basic guidelines for which Twitter will moderate their content.
● The people who are spreading misinformation are a stakeholder because the people spreading the misinformation want people to believe their views.
● News stations have an interest surrounding misinformation on Twitter because it could tarnish their image if people believe they are not reporting the truth.
The proposed mode of delivery (presentation type) & Rationale for the mode of delivery Our mode of delivery will be an infographic/dashboard. We are choosing this because infographics if done well can be very interesting to look at. They can hold a lot of information with both text and images, and this can make it a lot more visually appealing than many other forms of presentation. A lot of our group members also have done an infographic/website for the individual presentations so making an infographic will allow us as a group to build off of that experience.
