Running head: URBAN AND COSMOPOLITAN 1

URBAN AND METROPOLITAN STUDIES 2

Urban and Cosmopolitan

Washington D.C is the capital city of the United States that holds 693, 972 people according to the statistical findings that were gathered in July 2017. Washington D.C is a well-developed state that is because it happens to be the headquarter of the United States but there is a problem because many industries have their headquarters in the same state. Therefore, these factories emit dangerous wastes to Potomac River. The impact of the disposal of these waste materials is the death of the aquatic materials in the river (Singer, 2004). Therefore, my project will be situated along the entrance of Potomac River so that the machines can check the materials being deposited in the River and if it is detrimental to aquatic lives then it will be trapped or removed from the waters. The machines will contain traps and chemicals that will neutralize the industrial wastes so that the intensity of these chemicals are reduced in a way that the aquatic lives can handle the nature of waters that come in the River.

The traps will be of various sizes so that the boulders and other solid materials are restricted from entering Potomac River. The project will ensure that the types of the machines that are used do not contaminate the water system either by spilling the oils or disturbing the nature of the waters. The material restricted from gaining access to the river will be sorted and those that can be recycled will be taken to various companies while those harmful will be transported to designated dump sites (Frey, 2003). The project will intended to be rolled-out in a period of five years with heavy financial expenditure because of the high demands that come with the project we intend to lobby from the government, well-wishers, and friends so that will can protect Potomac River from destruction because of the harmful chemicals that are disposed to the water bodies without checking their content or effect when they come in contact with the water bodies and its inhabitants.

We intend that the project will be carried out in three phases because of the financial demands that come with the initiative. These phases will be after an interval of one and half years so that time should be provided to solicit cash as well as analyze the previous development made and how best to improve the consecutive stages. The blueprint is out and can be located to various public institutions in Washington because the government is aware of our intended project and they are in support of what we are doing as that is one way of conserving the environment.

The Potomac River Project borrows much from what we learned and read in the previous weeks on the urban systems and cosmopolitan. Washington D.C. is one of the known cosmopolitan city as much as it is developed it has challenges that are brought about with the people that trade daily with this state or the population of the people residing in that state. The fact that in our previous learning we were in a position to define and understand on the urban system and the challenges that affect these systems made me I have a humble time in applying the knowledge obtained in class to ensure that we shoulder this initiative till the desired results are obtained.
