This assignment will help you unpack who you are and why you are enrolled at TCU. We are often asked in multiple ways what we study, but rarely are we given the opportunity to truly discuss why we study what we study. In this assignment, you will construct a cajita (a sacred box) with items that represent your motivations for pursuing a bachelor’s degree. These boxes will contain physical items and can be seen as works of multi-media art. I will provide a model. You can fill or construct your cajita in any way you choose; keeping in mind the following:

· Who are you – what are your salient social identities, cultural practices, values, personal history;

· What influenced you to enroll in college and pursue your degree plan;

· What are your perceived strengths and areas of growth

· Why does the history of Latinxs in the United States matter to you

You will take turns in presenting your cajitas and sharing your stories in class. In addition to the physical cajita, you will also turn in a 2-3 page paper (with images of the physical items embedded in the paper) where you describe the construction of the cajita, the meanings of its contents, and how they motivate you to pursue a higher education.
