The alteration in health disease that I would like to work on is type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a great concern in healthcare globally because of the rising burden of diabetes worldwide. This could be because of rapid economic development and urbanization. There has also been a concern that a third of deaths from diabetes affect individuals below the age of 60. It is blamed that increased ingestion of unhealthy diets and sedentary lifestyles as the source of these trends (Khan et al., 2020). Also, aging contributes to diabetes because it tends to affect older adults. Blood glucose and blood pressure control remain substandard to patients and are partially associated with a lack of education and health promotion necessary for diabetes management. Therefore, I chose type 2 diabetes to create awareness about diabetes, including its prevention and management.

Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition due to either the pancreas's inability to produce adequate insulin or the pancreas cells becoming resistant to insulin. Therefore, they do not take in enough sugar, resulting in high blood sugar. Type 2 diabetes risk factors include family history, hereditary, and an individual risk increases if the parent has diabetes(Galicia et al., 2020). Other factors are obesity, inactivity, race, and ethnicity. Black and Hispanic people are most likely to develop the disease than white people. The signs include increased thirst, blurry vision, frequent urination, weariness, and hunger.

Since there is no cure, medications, a healthy diet, and exercise control it. Therefore, clients with type 2 disease should maintain a healthy lifestyle. They should eat healthy food with low fat and calories and higher fiber. They should also eat many fruits, whole grains, and vegetables (Pivari et al., 2019). Also, they should exercise to maintain a healthy body weight, and those with overweight should lose weight. In addition, they should comply with medications. As a nurse, I will educate them on how to monitor and perform blood glucose at home, how to take medications prescribed, how to administer insulin and where to store it, and lastly, educate them on weight management, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle. The disease can be prevented by eating healthy, exercising, and losing weight if you are overweight.
