Project Supply Chains

Fun in the Sun Beach wear (FSB) has created a charter to open a new location. The charter project is designed to improve the retail business by expanding to a new location. By opening a new location for FSB the business goal is to increase revenue through merchandise sales while improving and expanding the brand image. The prior years sales of the organization have been sufficient to support the funding of the new location. The goal will be to expand the customer base while increasing overall sales and improving the Brand image. The implementation of the new location will be supported using existing and new supply chain partners for both the new and existing store locations. By leveraging the existing relationships FSB currently holds and looking to add new vendors, the organization will look to improve the overall supply chain process for the new location as well as its existing stores. The project will be accomplished using the planning, conducting, controlling, and Closing supply chains.

FSB will start in the planning phase and will document the decisions made regarding the procurement of items and then detail how the organization will accomplish the goals for the plan. By identifying potential sellers that may meet the organizational goals FSB will locate sellers that potentially fit their business model and then obtain responses from those sellers, select the company to buy from and award a contract. The conduct procurement process can be a lengthy one therefore, FSB must ensure that the vendor will meet the organizational goals prior to awarding the contract. “Experts say the gap between the industrial and consumer supply chains grows larger at virtually every step of the process(Sheffi, 2020)”. As supply chains across the globe are current being stressed and strained FSB must ensure that the supply chain is secure to avoid potential risks to the project’s supply chain.

The Relationships that are created in the procurement process for FSB are a valuable asset to the organization and must be documented, managed, and updated throughout the process. This process is all maintained during the Control procurement phase. “Control Procurements is the process of managing procurement relationships; monitoring contract performance and making changes and corrections as appropriate; and closing out contracts(PMBOK, 2017)”. Creating strong relationships is a primary object for project managers and project teams, the success of the organization depends on the fulfillment of these agreements to meet and exceed FSB’s customer’s wants and needs while improving the brand image. Improved communication, performance and the effective utilization of resources allow the organization to be successful in the implementation of the new location while improving the overall profitability and the organizations brand image.

The success of the overall project is the responsibility of FSB and requires the support of high-level management however, much of the expertise needed to meet these goals resigns in the scope of the project manager. “Procurement for projects is ultimately the organization's responsibility, but knowledge about the process is the responsibility of a successful project manager(Brown, n.d.)”. The successful implementation or the project can be managed through inputs, and outputs that meet the goals of the organization. The project charter, business documents, and project management plan support the project and meet the scope baseline. Through the development of the project the project manager will ensure that the required data gathering, and analysis are being performed and documented. A Source selection analysis will ensure that that FSB can provide its customers with a quality product at a good price. Through the procurement process FSB will capture a larger market of new customers while improving the overall brand image and providing a quality product to FSB customers in the new location.
