Project Overview

Personal leadership is the way in which you determine how your individual skills and preferences play a role in how you lead. The goal of your personal leadership plan is to develop a plan to improve your leadership skills and to learn more about how you express yourself, particularly in reference to leadership. Whether you have more of a physical or vocal presence, it is important to learn how your personal characteristics and traits can help in developing your leadership skills. Furthermore, understanding your views on leadership can assist in how you plan for your future career.

Throughout the course you will develop your own personal leadership plan. In Modules 01 through 05, you will have an opportunity to work on your plan in the discussion forums. You will use the template provided and update it each week. You will not submit your plan to be graded each week, but your completed leadership plan will be due in Module 06. In Module 06, you will also submit a PowerPoint presentation of your Leadership Plan.

Requirements

Vision

Think about your personal beliefs and values to create a personal vision. Your vision should be short, yet inspiring. It should be viewed as an overall strategy written in 2-3 paragraphs. What would you want to create for yourself and those around you, as a leader? What type of leader would you like to be in the future? What goals would you like to accomplish as a leader?

Mission

Understanding the concepts of leadership and management play a role in how others are inspired. The first step in doing this is a vision. The next step is the mission. The mission involves the actions one will take to translate that vision into reality. Based on your vision, write your personal mission statement. Compare and defend your mission, based on your perspective of managers and leaders. Your mission statement should be clear and concise.

Motivation

Perform a web search and find an assessment that will help you determine your leadership style. Summarize the results and discuss how your leadership style can contribute to your personal motivation and the motivation of others. Does your leadership style support the motivation of others? If not, what is the best style for motivating a diverse group of individuals and why? How do you plan to use your leadership style to motivate others and progress your career? Your summary should be at least 1 page in length.

Challenges

Think about two tough decisions or challenges you've had to make that could build leadership skills. Describe the situations and how you handled them. Then, discuss how you would approach these challenges differently. Incorporate what you've learned about your leadership style and motivation factors.

Managing Conflict

We have all heard the many slogans that come with teamwork. Some examples are: TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) and "There is no 'I' in team." Come up with your own slogan. Discuss why you feel this is the best slogan to represent your idea of teamwork. In what ways will your slogan help you improve and make collective decisions, based on your personal conflict management strategy?

Your summary should be at least 1 page in length.

Reflection

PowerPoint Presentation

Your presentation should be constructed as if you were going to present your plan to a new employer. For each section of your plan, provide a brief summary of reflection. The reflection should describe what you learned about yourself and how you plan to use the information going forward. Also reflect on how the personal leadership helped you better understand a specific topic or content in the course.

Your presentation should be 12-18 slides.

· Your summary should be 1 page.

· Include an APA formatted reference page to include the source of your assessment.

Throughout the course you have been developing your personal leadership plan. Using the personal leadership plan template , submit your final personal leadership plan. Please keep in mind the required page count for each section.

Your plan will be organized by the following sections:

· Vision (2-3 paragraphs)

· Mission (few sentences)

· Motivation (1 page minimum)

· Challenges (1 page minimum)

· Managing Conflict (1 page minimum)

· Reflection (1 page minimum)

Then, develop a PowerPoint presentation to present your personal leadership plan. Your presentation should be constructed as if you were going to present your plan to a new employer. For each section of your plan, provide a brief summary of reflection. The reflection should describe what you learned about yourself and how you plan to use the information going forward. Also reflect on how the personal leadership helped you better understand a specific topic or content in the course.
