The assignment is a hand-written literature review to be written under exam conditions within the assessment block at the end of the

taught semester.

Overall aim:

The aim of the assignment is to carry out a literature review (maximum of 1000 words) of a strategic model or concept from the domain

of strategic management. The student is allowed to bring into the exam room a maximum of 5 academic articles from which they can

reference the content of their work. The relevance, importance and application of the chosen model or concept needs to be explained

in relation to industry examples from the world of hospitality.

Learning Outcomes and Transferable Skills • LO1 Critically appraise the application of key strategic management models within the world of hospitality

Resources Available: The requirement is to use the library databases to identify appropriate sources relating to the chosen strategic management model (or concept). The preferred database is Emerald and the sources should be from peer-reviewed sources only. This, therefore, excludes business sources found on other databases such as ProQuest. A maximum of 5 articles may brought into the exam room. These copies MUST NOT include any hand-written notes, although the use of highlighting of phrases and/or sections is permissible. The articles are to be handed in at the end of the exam, and if any hand-writing is identified on the articles, the exam will receive a zero grade. You are required to present a typed reference list of your 5 academic articles with your exam paper. This should be presented in line with APA referencing guidelines. This document should be prepared in advance and brought to the exam with the other permitted resources.
