1. Identify logistics performance indices that you should consider in your project. Describe each one in paragraph and how it is related to your project.  

China and mobile phones. China has been one of the leading cell phone manufacturing countries in the world. According to statista.com, in 2016, 962 mobile phones per 1000 people were used in China.   In July 2017, about 163.6 million cell phones had been produced in China. 

2. In one paragraph, identify the percentage of each class in the Pyramid of income of the whole population. Use data from Eurostat or data.gov!  

According to (Iskyan), 76% of China’s urban population will be considered middle class by 2022. That’s defined as urban households that earn US$9,000 – US$34,000 a year. By 2022, (Barton) estimate, the upper middle class will account for 54 percent of urban households and 56 percent of urban private consumption. The mass middle will dwindle to 22 percent of urban households.  Include four more sentences and a image of the pyramid income of the whole population . site all sources being used under references.

China is our country and mobile phones is our market. 

B.2. Using Eurostat, or Worldbank, or other credible websites, find the percentage of the middle class in your selected market for 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Draw a figure or a table that shows these percentages China’s middle class has reached 109 million people in 2015, surpassing the 92 million in America.

B.4. Identify the modify marketing strategy you are going to use. How would you address the cultural difference?   My group and I market strategy is to continuously generate new sources of advantage and view change as the key source of new opportunities for growth. We are going to redesign e-commerce sites with sophisticated mobile capabilities, and ensure a smooth shopping and checkout experience entirely on mobile applications. 

B.5. Based on the competitors you found in previous homework, how can you collaborate with them while entering your market?   Huawei is one of our biggest competitors. Because they sold an estimated $26.5 billion worth of phones in 2016 and they are the only Chinese phone maker who works with Samsung’s in quality. It will be beneficial to collaborate with Huawei by extending our network service to other rural parts of the country.

B.1. State your project. (You already did that, I want to see if you made any changes)

B.2. Please draw the 5-level supply chain you have in your slides. For this supply chain, answer the following in at least one paragraph.

(i) Identify some possible locations for your end-product assembly (Level 3 of your supply chain). Also select one final location for your product.

(ii) Identify the parts that you need for your assembly and identify a set of suppliers that can provide you with those parts. Also, identify their locations (Level 2 of your supply chain).

(iii) Identify at least five of the raw materials that are needed to create parts (level 1 of supply chain). Also identify their locations.

(iv) Identify some possible locations for your warehouses in the target country. Justify why these locations are preferred. You can argue use the market segmentation and argue if the desired location is close to the segment of population that you are targeting.

At the third level of supply chain, one looks at the suitable locations for the assembly of the end product in this case the mobile phones. Since the third level occurs at almost the final stage, the locations could be near distribution centers. Therefore, for a company manufacturing mobile phones in large scale for over sea markets, locating the assembly points near shipping areas would be perfect. Some of the parts required for the assembly of the phones would be switch antenna, battery, network IC, TX filter and the ROM. Some of the parts suppliers are: Kimeery Industrial limited, Goldshine Tech LTD and VSO Tech LTD. The raw materials for these parts are mainly: metalloids, copper, ceramics, plastics and glass. The target country for this phones will be Spain, and the location of the warehouses can be strategically located at the coastal region as there is quick access to products and spare parts (Kuhn). B.1. For my group (Group 3) our topic is Negotiation with China.

B.2. For our project, Factors influencing Entry Strategies is type of entry strategy that would be the most useful for our market. It is the best entry due to the cost, cultural and Institutional differences, liability of foreignness and timing of entry. With cost of production, cost of transportation and cost of operation, especially since we are dealing with a foreign country and transportation with China. Also, cultural and institutional differences which is dealing with all elements of culture and institution can be hidden dimension while entering an EM such as, language, lifestyle and ethics which is very important since we will be an American business doing business with another country. Understanding their language, and lifestyle is very important to know when doing business with another country. Liability of foreignness and timing of entry is also a major key on why this would be the best entry strategy for our type of project.

B.2. For your project,

(i) Identify a list of official that you are likely to negotiate with before entering the market. You can use your common sense and a logical argument. At least two paragraphs of discussion.

(ii) Discuss your plan about every element of the negotiation. What is the pace of the negotiation, what is the emotional level of the other party involved in the negotiation process and so on. At least one page of discussion is needed.

(iii) Based on the slides decide where your market resides geographically within the country that you have selected. Based on this geographical location, decide on the pace of negotiation, negotiation strategy, decision making, and administrative factors. Note that you need to study the tables in chapter 7 of your slides for this question. One page of discussion is needed.
