Project Initiation Paper

Introduction

Project management is a crucial undertaking which assists in the management and actualization of short term pieces of work. In essence, a given activity is characterized as project if it encompasses a given work, a duration and a goal to be actualized at the completion of the work. The main major parts of project management entail planning which encompasses devising a workable scheme to be used in accomplishing an objective, executing which entails carrying out the plan and controlling which entails measuring the project’s progress and taking corrective actions whenever needed. This paper expostulates on the initiation of a project as identified in week one discussion.

The project

The project entails a marketing campaign plan. The project is made for a multinational organization that plans to carry out a comprehensive marketing campaign to reach more potential consumers and possibly make more sales. The project will be implemented by a project management team headed by a project manager (Cho & Gibson Jr, 2001). It is also worthy to note that the project the project will encompass a number of tasks and subtasks which will make up the whole project.

The scope of the project

A project scope involves ascertaining and documenting a list of specific project deliverables, features, functions, deadlines, and the cost of implementation.in essence, it is a clear stipulation of what needs to be done (Cho & Gibson Jr, 2001). The marketing campaign project’s main deliverable is to implement a marketing campaign which will ensure that the host company is able to present its ideas to the public. Its start date is November 6, 2017 and its completion date is December 6, 2017. As such, the project is planned to be completed in a month’s time. The project will encompass the use of human capital. Some of the professionals who will comprise the project team include the marketing lead, marketing researcher, marketing rep, internal PR, marketing staff and various relevant vendors. These professionals will provide specialized knowledge which will ensure that the project deliverables are achieved. As such, they will need to be compensated for their input hence this compensation will be included in the project budget. In addition to this, the project will encompass the use of other resources such as printing machines, telecommunication gadgets and analytical machines such as computers. All of these resources will comprise the comprehensive budget for the project. With these details in mind, the overall budget for the project is set at $800,000.

The phase of the project which will present the greatest challenge

The project encompasses several tasks and subtasks. Some of the tasks will be easier to implement than others. The phase of the project which might present the greatest challenge is the execution of the campaign. This phase is expected to take five days and is the most crucial since it will encompass the actual presentation of the campaign to the public. As such, at this phase, everything should work perfectly so as to ensure that the company presents the best picture to the public. The main challenge that might be experienced is the campaign failing to take off as per the plans of the project management team.

Strategy that could be used in order to address the challenge in question

The challenge in question encompasses the campaign failing to take off as per the plans of the project management team. This can be due to a number of failures or things failing to go according plans. This challenge will be addressed by first carrying a pilot program to test on the feasibility of the project being executed as desired (Khan, 2006). There will also be several simulations before the actual execution to ensure that the project execution can be executed as planned.
