Problem Statement

Today, there are rising cases of cybercrimes that are experienced in organizations including the healthcare facilities and learning institutions and has led to excessive losses that are financially and also damaging the reputation of the institutions (Oyelami & Mohd, 2020). Based on the rising cases of cybersecurity, there is high possibility that most of them are contributed by mistakes of the employees and all the other stakeholders and referred to human errors. Based on the interview that I conducted with the client that is the school district indicated that the population of the school is around 70,000 and this consists of students, teachers and staff and they are located in 20 campuses. The school wishes to have the best cybersecurity in order to guarantee the safety of the student data and that of the staff. The IT staff has confirmed that they have the modern infrastructure in terms of the personal computers, network systems and other important devices but needs them updated to the latest version. In this case, I would consider hiring the best qualified IT service provider that understands the system and offer the necessary training to all staff to guarantee safety of the systems. The IT provider will implement the project through system, network and server updates and the development of security policies for the staff and also train them on the best ways to avoid cyber-attacks.

Goals

The primary goal of the learning institution of having the project is to strengthen the school security of their digital resources. The school handles sensitive student and staff data that must be protected in order to protect their reputation from the public. For this reason, we are looking forward to having systems, servers and hardware updates. Also; the development of security policies, students, and staff training in order to minimize possible human errors which is the main threat to security. Secondly, the organization is looking forward to complying with the government regulation on the protection of customers and client data in terms of confidentiality, integrity and availability in avoiding cybercrimes that leads to exposure of the data to the public. Finally, the project targets on helping the school avoid the financial losses associated with cybercrimes that come in terms of data loss and lawsuit by the students or staff seeking court intervention.

Deliverables

The project deliverables would include highlighting all the hardware and software of the school that require updates and develop the list of all the resources needed for the update. The deployment of the system, server and hardware updates are conducted by the IT service provider. Security policies are developed that is used in order to avoid putting the updates systems and hardware to risks and ensure that they are secure. In addition, the development of security policies is also another deliverable that should be done with much consideration of the know-how of both the students and the staff about the cybersecurity approaches. The service provider then launches the security policy training program in order to educate and raise awareness of mistakes that are committed unknowingly increasing the vulnerability of systems, servers and networks of our school IT infrastructure. A detailed timeline is developed about the time it takes to complete each deliverable and this would have an impact on the budget because additional time would increase costs. The budget is then developed for all the deliverables.

Project Timelines

The project will be conducted and completed within a period of 10 weeks. The project implementation would be done based on the project deliverables. The first approach is to discuss with the client about their needs and this include the infrastructure and is needed to be updated and also the knowledge about the cybersecurity that would guide in the development of security policies training and development. The project timeline includes the preparation and implementation. The first two weeks would be more of assessment of the systems and the research of the updates available in the market in order to know what is needed. The staff training would be the last process after updating the systems, servers and hardware infrastructure and also developing the security process.

Budget

There is no clear budget that is known for the project because more information and analysis of the deliverables has to be done. The institution is ready to spend approximately $3000 for the project and if the value is exceeded then the organization need to look for ways to fund the project. The project costs are calculated based on each deliverable. This would change annually since aspects like policy development would not be done bur only updated.
