Reflection of English 101

100 points (15% ENGL 107 Course Grade)

For this assignment, you will compose a reflection on your learning in this course using artifacts (activities completed in the course related to your learning of the material) as support.

The goal of this final project is to reflect on and demonstrate that you have carefully thought about your process of learning in this course. Reflecting on your learning in English 107 should demonstrate to readers that you have spent time considering how your work connects with your personal goals and the course goals and provides evidence of your development in them. This project allows you to document your performance in this class by examining what you’ve produced this semester in relation to the goals. Key terms (e.g. purpose, audience, rhetoric, genre) introduced in the course represent core concepts in writing, and they will be useful vocabulary for explaining your development as a writer.

· Selecting and using artifacts. Your artifacts should include any writing you’ve done this semester. “Any writing” means anything you’ve produced for this class that demonstrates your achievement AND/OR struggle in meeting goals. It might be notes you made for class, all of the major assignments with rough drafts, homework or annotated reading assignments that you felt had a big influence on your learning this semester, peer review comments, etc. Your artifacts can be alphabetic text, images, audio, video, etc., they should be screenshots of the relevant portions taken from larger assignments/documents, and your essay should also briefly describe these artifacts and their significance.

· Reflecting on your learning. Consider what you have learned in this class, and draw from reflections composed at the end of each major project as you compose this essay.

After completing this project, and its associated course module, you will have made progress towards the following student learning objectives:

Grading Criteria

Your Reflection will be graded on the following criteria, which describe a paper that “Meets Expectations.” A grading rubric will also be shared.

· Focus and Insight: The paper has a clear focus, illustrating the author’s development of writing through the course and an exploration of the author’s writing processes (e.g., brainstorming, drafting, peer review, revision) (Objectives 4B, 4C, 5A, 5B, 5C) 30 pts.

· Incorporating Evidence: The paper incorporates support or evidence for claims or insights through descriptive detail and reference to specific artifacts. (Objective 2A, 2B) 30 pts.

· Critical Engagement: Reflection articulates how the author’s values, goals, and/or circumstances (e.g., purpose, audience, genre) inform their choices as writers (Objective 1A, 1B, 1C) 25 pts.

· Language and Rhetorical Features: The paper appropriately uses or adapts common language and rhetorical features of reflection. (Objectives 1B, 1C, 3A) 15 pts.
