PROJECT 4: Persuasive speech
The following guidelines apply to the individual informal speeches
You remember project 3: Assume it has been a while since you’ve sent your persuasive letter re programs/courses at the university, and you haven’t got a response.
Now, you telephone the office of the official to whom you had written. S/he is unavailable and out-of-town according to a recorded voice message.
And so, you decided to leave a voicemail regarding your request.
2. Your speech should have
- a clear beginning in which you:
▪ aim to gain attention
▪ build up to and clarify the topic
▪ (total time approx. 30 seconds)
- a discernible body in which you:
▪ explain why you feel strongly about this topic/ your personal connection
▪ explain why your university would be a better place if this program or course were introduced (cover the scope)
▪ (total time approx. 1 minute)
- a clear conclusion in which you:
▪ re-cap
▪ leave the audience with something to think about
▪ (approx. 30 seconds)
