Project 3, Part 2 of 3: Support Services Report

At this point, you know a good deal about the support service you have been working with these past weeks. You have interviewed, researched, and created. This week, you will write the short report that will integrate and present your research in a more informative way. This document will guide you through the logistics of the report. Report Purpose: The purpose of the report is to inform your stakeholder audience about the TCC NE support service. Unlike the student audience for whom you created your flyer, the stakeholder audience is a TCC community member – think, taxpayer – who may or may not have a regular connection to TCC or to higher education. This person(s) is interested in your report because they want to ensure that TCC is stewarding community funds well. In other words, this stakeholder is interested in knowing how his/her tax monies are being used towards the benefit of students at TCC. Aware, now, of this audience, your goal is to convince this stakeholder that the support service is worth the cost of maintaining the service and that the support service is serving its mission to students and, thus, the community. Organizing the Report: The challenge of this report is to determine what headings you will include in its development. Obviously, your report will have a title, an introduction (implied), and a conclusion (do not title it “Conclusion”). But, what other headings are you going to integrate into this report so that the organization is logical, the report easily readable/skimmable, and the report accessible? Given the report should be no longer than 3 pages, I recommend no more than 6 first-level headings. 4 is probably more manageable. In class, you will brainstorm what these headings might be and choose the ones that work best for your service. I will peruse them before Wednesday and give you feedback on Blackboard. Once you have your headings set, your drafting will involve filling in the headings with content.

Logistics or…What does my report need to have to meet standard? The report should:

· Be about 3 pages in length, single-spaced, with bold headings and line spaces to indicate paragraph breaks.

· Include a meaningful title and have its pages numbered on the document.

· Integrate research, using a mix of paraphrases and quoted material, from an MLA Works Cited list that appears at the end of the report. The integrated research should be cited with MLA in-text citations and include appropriate signal phrases. If information from the interview is used in the report, a citation for the interview should also be included in the MLA Works Cited list.

· Include a graph that references information related to the support service, gained from research or from information gathered through the primary research. The graph should have a descriptive title that shows good application of the rule of capitalization for titles and headings.

· Include 4-6 first level-headings that show good application of the rule of capitalization for titles and headings.
