Bitton, Mally Shechory, and Donya Hawa-Kamel. "Arab Girls at Risk of Victimization: Cultural and Personal Characteristics." An International Perspective on Contemporary Developments in Victimology. Springer, Cham, 2020. 93-104.

Summary:

The latest research reflects the risk of teenage girls in Arab society in Israel. The goal of the study was to examine the relationship between them and girls from the normative population through cultural variables and risk behaviour factors among adolescents: self-harm, social conservatism, self-control, and violence. The results show that different communities have universal characteristics in common, despite their cultural and social individuality, and there are parallels between traditional and contemporary communities. The girls at threat showed more self-harm than girls in a control condition, comparable to modern research results, the degree of violence among them was substantially higher than among the control conditioned girls, and their self-control and social conservatism were lower.

Analysis:

The authors used Ethos in the text by highlighting the existing ideology of patriarchal society existence and its influence on individuals mental health. It clearly states that although all the girls came from traditional families, in contrast to the controlled community, most of the at-risk girl described herself as less spiritual. So the credibility of the author is established on the discussion of the socio-cultural impact on Arab youth behaviour. It also appeals to emotions as the pathos side include expressive descriptions of those young girls who are under stress due to their submission towards the system. The audience also feels emotional expression and respond to it with their impact on these girls. Moreover, it is logical in its structure, presentation and content as it clearly Marks cause-effect thinking, where it elaborate as well as exemplify its coherent thought. Overall, it signifies the sufferings of young children who are growing up in a socially backward family environment that can be felt somewhere in the wealthy middle Eastern young girls as well. Despite many facilities and support, young children-specially girls, are not allowed to make decisions and follow the family tradition. The article clearly indicates that there exists a high risk of stress and feeling of loneliness due to you such a problem. The above article beautifully connects Self-Harm and Aggression, Self-Control, and Traditionalism in a typical socio-cultural environment.

Summary:

This scholarly journal article discusses a music video launched in December 2016 features Japanese artist DJ Pikotaro performing in an animal print outfit playing a typical musical tune titled Pen Pineapple Apple Pen, which is applied on Arab musicians and is entitled "I have a night and its sky, I have its stars and its moon, you and I." This illustration is indicative of Arab youth's online fusion and mash-up production that incorporates mainstream culture from around the globe, Arabic, Japanese, French, and others, combined into fresh content that delivers an altogether separate signal that Arab youths are artistic agents.

Analysis:

The above article clearly shows the use of mashups is a powerful tool of creating cultural content which gives rise to different cultural values then what is existing in the environment. It clearly expresses the attached emotions where the audience wants to accept and adore the other popular culture elements. Most of the young girls and boys are stuck between traditional and modern social-cultural values, where they are bound to follow the traditional approach while fishing modern approach in the social-cultural element. The article motivates the adoption of humour and convinces with the appeal of emotional audience manipulation. It, somewhere, connects with the inner feeling of youth to connect with the world. It compares the traditional and modern social setting with deductive reasoning and coherent thought which signifies the intentional act of mashing up of Arab celebrities on the pattern of globally accepted celebrities from a different culture. The purpose of this article is to highlight the cultural mixing where the content it is is not purely Arabic and can be considered purely commercialised. So, a reoriented humour is this source of a cultural shift that affect geo-cultural contexts for young Arab girls, specifically, as they are supposed to submit to the traditional values more than boys despite modern Global education availability for them.

Synthesis of both sources:

Socio-cultural aspects are very important for any youth and I am also driven by its influence in the changing environment around me. Both the articles above reflects changing socio-cultural pattern and its effect on the youth specifically, young girls. The time seeks a modern approach in everyday life practices, but the influence of prevalent traditional patriarchal society in the Arab world still poses a question for, the challenge between adopting traditions or to global culture, young Arab girls and boys. The article has highlighted the resistance of teenage girls towards traditional Arab society's attitude, where more control is observed. It reflects the life of a traditional teen in the Muslim world with strict and conservative values that direct their life, but it also poses associated risk of stress and depression due to loneliness caused by the system. The second article highlights the humour in online content that employs Arab and global remixes as music is part of the culture, nowadays, and delivers strong messages that cannot be ignored. The influence of the content of mashup and remix culture is strongly pursued among Arab youth. The journal article considers it as an intentional act and portrays as a vision building act that influences decision making through cultural flows and reorientation of Global cultural direction. It is interesting to note that, on the one side, Arab Youths are still bounded by the traditional cultural aspects. On the other hand, they are guided and motivated by a changing global culture, where decision making is not empowered and entrusted in their hands, while they are open to the world culture and its effect.
