Career Project-Component #A

Future Career Report

Introduction: The three companies I choose are: Bank of America, McCann and Starbucks. I choose BOA because my major is economy and I am interested in banking. I choose McCann, an advertising company, because my friend once interned in McCann, and I really like their creative work. I choose Starbucks because I go to Starbucks everyday, and I like its working atmosphere.

STEP 1.

Company 1: Bank of America

Bank of America is the largest commercial bank in the United States and the second oldest bank in the United States (Our). On its website, there are many banking links, such as checking, savings, credit cards, home loans, car loans and so on. Users can log in to view their bank accounts. On the website, there are some pictures of families and government buildings, and pictures that symbolize money and suggest saving money. In addition, on the BOA recruitment website, they provide applicants with many helpful information, such as career areas, benefits and advantages, applicants with disabilities and so on (Success).

Company 2: McCann

McCann is an American global advertising agency network, with offices in 120 countries. On its website, it shows McCann's ads for Coca-Cola, nestle, L'oreal, Chevrolet, Microsoft and more. Each company's name is followed by an image of an advertisement for McCann (General Information on McCann.). As a top advertising company that has won many awards, McCann's advertising is not only very creative, but also very profound.

Company 3: Starbucks

Starbucks is the world's largest coffee chain. On the Starbucks website, the first big picture is a Starbucks gift card on a table next to a cup of coffee. The gift card is emblazoned with the Starbucks logo and a pair of gloves surrounds it. This picture is very warm. Apart from gift card and rewards card, there are also links of coffee, social impact and links of stories on the website. The stories are news about Starbucks stores around the world, new Starbucks products and company events, such as an article titled "Chicago gets a first taste of Princi ahead of its new Starbucks Reserve Roastery" ( General Information on Starbucks).

STEP 2.

I eliminate company 3 Starbucks because I found that I didn't know much about coffee. The reason why I want to work in Starbucks is because I like the atmosphere of Starbucks, but actually I don't know much about coffee.

Company 1: Bank of America (BOA)

BOA has a very good financial viability. It is one of the world's largest financial institutions. According to the Glassdoor Job Search, the revenue of BOA is over $10 billion per year (Bank). They serve clients through operations in all 50 states and more than 35 countries. The corporate culture is formal. Employees need to wear formal clothes. BOA supports several nonprofit programs. Their Charitable Foundation includes student leaders and neighborhood builders. BOA offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage for employees and their eligible family. Life and disability insurance options provide income replacement in the event of serious injury or death. The retirement benefits focus on the 401(k) plan. After working one year for Bank of America, employees can take up to 16 weeks of paid maternity, paternity and adoption leave (Relationship).

Company 2: McCann

The current financial viability of McCann is very good. The revenue is $500 million to $1billion per year. It has offices in 120 countries (General Information on McCann.). The corporate culture is informal. Employees can wear casual clothes. When my friend interned at McCann in Shanghai, they sometimes brought their pets to work. McCann is part of McCann Worldgroup, along with several other agencies, including direct digital marketing agency MRM//McCann, experiential marketing agency Momentum Worldwide, healthcare marketing group McCann Health, branding firm FutureBrand, and public-relations and strategic-communications agency Weber Shandwick. They offer health insurance, pension plan, 401 plan and retirement plan, and the working places are flexible (View). Employees can work from home. There are many opportunities to travel abroad on business, so you can experience different cultures.

STEP 3.

I eliminate McCann and choose Bank of America because BOA has more benefits than McCann. In addition, my major is economics, so I know more about banking. Although I am also very interested in McCann, I do not know much about advertising, design and marketing.

Company: Bank of America

The CEO of BOA is Brian T. Moynihan, who’s also an American lawyer. I’m interested in relationship banker. The average salary of this job is $37,286 per year. Relationship bankers are located in the financial center and are responsible for assisting customers and building customer relationships. Required skills include ability to understand technology to assist customers with self-service needs, ability to build solid relationships with teammates, business partners and specialists by fostering teamwork, partnership and collaboration in a virtual or face-to-face environment, and apply strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to meet customers’ needs. Desired skills include Bachelor’s degree or business relevant associate degree, one year of demonstrated successful sales experience in a salary plus incentive environment with individual sales goals, six months of cash handling experience and banking center experience (Relationship).

STEP 4.

In conclusion, Bank of America, as a financial institution with a global reputation, has very good benefits for its employees. Meanwhile, BOA is very professional and strict in its job requirements, requiring very experienced employees. It is an ideal job for me who major in economics.
