case details Addressing Recycling Crisis on Campus

According to the investigation conducted by CBC Radio, only nine percent of recycled plastic waste is actually recycled. Blue Bin Recycling Program adopted by several provinces and many university campuses across the country show an ex- tremely low impact level.

You have noticed that your university is also applying some of the mainstream but ineffective recycling strategies. However, you have previously worked for an environmental protection organization that has tested and successfully implemented an experimental recycling approach. The approach was to estab- lish a small sorting facility on campus and then to deliver al- ready sorted packages of plastic directly to the local recycling facility.

You are proposing your [team’s] services to the university ad- ministration. You offer to handle the sorting operations along with delivering of plastic waste to the recycling facility.

A good proposal often contains more than one solution. Therefore, come up with another idea offering a solution to the same problem (inefficiency of existing plastic recycling ap- proaches) and offer it as an alternative solution. You can make it a primary or a secondary solution.

For both proposed solutions feel free to make up any addi- tional details.

Write a Proposal Report (500-1000 words) in a proper format containing all major components.

The proposal should reflect research into viable options pre- senting a course of direction for the university. Focus on recommendations regarding services, applications, and op- portunities. Don’t forget the cost, ease, people and training required. You are highly encouraged to include financials, ac- tion plans, and a social media strategy.

Format and organization Component structure is flexible, however, make sure that all of the necessary elements of this particular type of report (pro- posal report) can be clearly identified. Even though you do not need to include every single structural element, the pyramid structure must be the basis of your project organization.

research and sources In addition to the provided case details, please do your own research on the issue. Use external sources, cosidering their credibility and reliability of extracted information. At least two external sources must be used.

WRITING Please apply the skills and knowledge that you gained through our lectures, exercises and assignments. Keep the inverted pyramid model for paragraph organization in mind. Make sure to go through all of the Plain Language checklist items while writing and editing. As always, grammar, spelling, punctuation and language mechanics are important.

APA style must be applied at least to all common situations covered in class. Using APA style citations - both in-text and reference list - is a requirement.

At this stage it is crucial to implement proper treatment of referenced materials and demonstrate a clear understanding of differences between direct quotation, summarizing and paraphrasing.

formatting Formatting of text and visuals needs to be consistent with the practices discussed in class and covered in the exercises/as- signments.

Please check the attached Evaluation Criteria Checklist for additional information.
