Project 1 – Draw an Object in 2D
Select an item (from the list, or something that you are interested in drawing) get the object approved by the instructor or TA and then draw three standard views (top, front and side) of that object. The object can be an original design or a drawing of an actual object. Suggested items:

Total points for this assignment: 300 - up to 30 "bonus" points may be earned due to level of detail but the project will not exceed the 300 point cap (this is not extra credit but you can earn back points lost for other mistakes)
please note: use of objects that include complete, step-by-step tutorials on YouTube or other such sites will be grounds for a 0 (zero) grade and being reported to the Dean of Students for Academic Misconduct.
Hand Drafting Component In class on Wednesday 10-11-17 OR Thursday 10-12-17 you will pick what you are drawing and come up with 3 SKETCHED views before you leave class. GET APPROVAL OF YOUR OBJECT BEFORE YOU START DRAWING.
1) Draw 3 views of your object in sketch. These are supposed to be quick drawings. Line quality will not be graded. Must unfold from each other and be the same size-use your construction lines.
2) Draw dimensions of overall height/width/depth in each view (six total)-DO NOT SET A SCALE ON SKETCHES- dimensions are so YOU know how large your object is before you start drawing in CAD
3) Label your views
4) Include Notes to remind yourself about line weight/line color, textures/hatch patterns you may want to use in CAD
5) TURN in BEFORE THE END OF CLASS-REDLINES WILL BE COMPLETED AND GIVEN BACK TO YOU AT THE START OF CLASS. Fill out your title block-Assignment name is Project One-Sketch
CAD Component START AFTER YOUR SKETCHES HAVE BEEN RETURNED-IF YOU HAVE ALREADY STARTED DRAWING IN CAD YOU MUST MAKE CHANGES INDICATED IN REDLINES 1) Turn in CAD file (DWG or ACAD)
A) Three views drawn in Model Space to real life size B) Line weights: Exterior lines are Magenta, Interior lines are Cyan. Hidden lines are Green and linetype
must be hidden or hidden 2, linetype scale will have to be adjusted according to your specific project. C) Three separate viewports are used, one view per viewport, on the 36x24 Title Block Page D) Viewports are on the viewport layer and are set to the same scale and scale is indicated in the title block E) Each view is labeled and labels are Uppercase and made with RomanS font. Also, include a label to state
what you've drawn somewhere within the border of the title block. F) There are at least nine dimensions on the drawings-six will be the overall height, width and depth of each
view, the other three are up to you. (Circles are dimensioned with Radius or Diameter-never linear) Dimension in Model space.
G) Fill out Title Block, page number should read 1/1, the assignment name should read: "Project One-CAD" H) Name your CAD file with the file naming format you've used all semester
When drawing your project in CAD it is recommended to use temporary construction lines (perhaps on a non‐printable layer) to line up the object and its parts in the three views.
In addition to the above criteria, your CAD project will also be graded on the following:
The three views must match, meaning that they all represent the same object in size and detail, we will not be measuring the real world objects, but the drawings must be a reasonable size for the object they are representing. Scale for viewport must be a measurable scale.
Views are correctly labeled (SIDE is not an acceptable label-it must be Left or Right), has dimensions, everything is laid out in a clear and easy to read layout (drawings should "Unfold" from each other), and paper space is utilized to maximize drawing size on the paper.
Worth 30 points of the assignment grade, plus 30 potential "bonus" points that can be earned for exceptional detail above and beyond the required level.
