Project Guidelines

Join a group through the Group Project Sign Up discussion board located in the Unit Zero folder.

-Start by determining what time during the week you would be available to work on the project or anything else that you would like to work on with other students in the course. Go to the discussion boards posted in the Unit ZERO folder and check to see if one of the times given is suitable for you. If so sign up for that time by replying to Sign In Thread located on the discussion board. If none of the times posted with the discussion boards fits in your schedule sign in under the discussion board ‘Time to be Decided Weekly’.

Complete by April 12th

Once your group has formed you and your group should select a topic from the list of issues given on the U.N. survey posted at http://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/united-nations-my-world-survey-education-priority and then post it on the group project sign up discussion board.

-As your group discusses which issue you want to cover, make arrangements for how you want to go about completing the project. Do you want to work together and split up the topic into subtopics? Do you want to work independently and post separate presentation materials at the end? Schedule a presentation date on Blackboard Collaborate. Email me times when your group will be available to present online. You should pick a time during the week of March 10th to March 17th. The times given for group sessions on blackboard collaborate are times that fit my schedule. If you need to present at a different time contact me so we can work it out. 5 points

Complete by April 19th

Research your topic. Find at least 3 sources. Collect facts, list them and note the sources where you found them. Add your bibliography.

-Each student in the group should participate in the research. After you have collected the information post your data on the group discussion board set up for your group. Then submit it through the submission box located in the Unit ZERO folder. Make sure you provide a bibliography as well. 15 points

Due on April 26th

Contact at least 2 people from different countries through the internet or in person and interview them.

-Establish a list of questions on your issue that you and your group members would like to learn more about. Post the list of questions on the discussion board. Contact at least 2 people from different countries through the internet or in person and interview them. Post your interviews on the group discussion board. Then submit your write ups through the submission box located in the Unit ZERO folder. 15 points

Due on May 3rd

Complete a four part summary with 2 different perspectives on the issue plus a summary of your views on the topic.

-Each student is to complete a four part paper. First part should include a statement of the issue being covered and the facts and bibliography developed and the interviews that you posted on your discussion board. The second and third parts should be summaries of two different views taken from your interviews and your research on the topic. The fourth part should be a summary of your views on the topic. The summary of your views should include references to the facts that you found along with citations. You can use bibliographies from other students in your group for your citations. Submit your paper through the submission box located in the Unit ZERO folder. 50 points

Due on May 18th

Present a summary of your topic to the class.

-Each student in your group should design one or two power point slides for a presentation on Blackboard Collaborate. You may choose to select someone in your group to put the slides together for your group presentation. Present your topic with your group in an online session on your scheduled presentation date. 10 points

Due week of May 4th-11th

Complete the U.N. survey.

Instructions for Signing up for the Group Project

– Start by bringing up the ‘Group Project - Sign in Forum’ located in the Main Page and the Unit ZERO folder in the course on ‘Blackboard’. Select a time that you could meet online each week from the list below.   Sign in by clicking on the post with the day and time that works for you.  Click on reply and submit.

This will be your group meeting time on 'Blackboard Collaborate' where you can work out the details for the project and discuss homework assignments and hold study group sessions for tests.

Blackboard collaborate sessions for your group can be accessed by clicking on 'Blackboard Collaborate' next to the purple tab that is posted inside the Unit ZERO folder.

To use Blackboard Collaborate, you will need the latest version of 'Java Script' and a microphone or telephone link to your computer.

Group Selection Deadline is April 11th.

Mondays 8:30 to 9:30 PM Tuesdays 9:30 to 10:30 AM Wednesdays 11:00 to 12:00 AM

Thursdays 1:00 to 2:00 PM, Fridays 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Sundays 4:00 to 5:00 PM

Time to Be Decided Weekly- Sign in here if you have an irregular schedule. Each week you can choose any of the alternative times to meet up with students to discuss material.  However you will need to work out group project assignments through the discussion board.

Part I

State your issue in one to two sentences.

(Example: Education is considered as a form of investment. Like any other investment the cost of the investment needs to be compared to the expected returns on that investment.

List your facts with sources given
