Project- Famous Psychologist Paper: (total of 40 points) Select a famous person from psychology from one of the psychologists in our textbook or listed on the class list posted to Blackboard. This will help you to understand the history of psychology and learn about some of the theorists in our field. Only 1 student per psychologist . If you have someone in mind that you would like to write your paper on, but they are not on the list, just let me know. I will update the list daily Monday-Friday. You must select your Psychologist by February 3 by 5 pm. Failure to do so will have me assigning you a psychologist. Some of these individuals have had a major impact on psychology but might not be considered a psychologist, that is ok. Also, some are certainly famous for reasons outside of psychology- you are welcome to mention those accomplishments, but your focus should be on their contributions to psychology . In a 3–4-page typed paper, using 12-point, Times New Roman font with double spacing and 1-inch margins o You will provide a brief biography of the psychologist, Providing information about their family, education, key issues in their lives, is fine and often students find it an easy place to start their papers. This is not required, though. o Your paper must include: At least one major concept or theory they developed. A major research study is also acceptable for this (for instance, discussing the Bobo doll experiment for Bandura). You need to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their ideas. This may be from their contemporaries (rivals), from themselves, from the viewpoint of ethics, or modern takes on research. This is not meant to be your opinion, rather a scholarly evaluation of their research. In your final paragraph, I would like you to give your personal opinion on their contributions to psychology and how their research can be translated today (such as by comparing it to more modern research, showing how we are or can apply it, how the
theory has continued to grow (have we kept researching that topic), or how we can use it to better research practices/ethics). This is your opinion, but it should still be scholarly (don’t just say you think the person is a jerk or really cool, tell me why) o All citations and references should use APA style . Your reference page does not count toward your overall page count. o You can provide a cover page, but this will not count towards your overall page count. o You will need at least two sources outside of our textbook (you are not required to use your textbook, but you are welcome to) One of your sources needs to be scholarly (such as an original article written by the researcher or a textbook). FYI, Wikipedia is not a scholarly source. I will be happy to help you with outside sources if needed. Another possible source for some of the psychologists would be websites dedicated to them and/or their research. Make sure these use actual sources for their claims. Some psychologists also have museums dedicated to them which also have websites. For some of the newer researchers, you may also be able to find lectures, TED Talks, etc. that they have participated in, which can be used as a source. o Submit your paper to Blackboard through the Turnitin link under “Famous Psychologist Paper” o Your paper must be in a Word document (DOC or DOCX). Other formats will NOT be graded. o Due on April 7 by 5 pm- Late papers will NOT be accepted for any reason. o You can submit your papers at any time during the semester for grading, however, once your paper is graded, that is your grade.
