PROFILE OF A PRESCHOOLER PROJECT OUTLINE This is an outline for the completion of the Profile of a Preschooler Project. This outline will be followed as such for grading purposes over the course of the semester. Each piece will be submitted throughout the semester. Some items will be counted as assignment grades. The entire project will be graded according to the rubric for a project grade. You will want to reference the rubric as you go to ensure you have completed all pieces of the project and addressed all elements of the rubric. Be sure to reference the instructional sheet of the project for details. *All submissions must be typed. Summary and Reflection must be double-spaced.

PART I 1. Identify a child to observe and get parent/caregivers permission to make

observations. Submit:

 Permission form with the child’s name and age written on the document. 2. A. Review Domains of Development,

B. Complete Parent/Caregiver Interview C. Agree on specific dates to observe the child (3 over the next month).

Submit:

 Completed Parent/Caregiver interview questions and answers typed and double-spaced

3. 1st Observation: Cognitive Development Observation: a. Complete a Running Record (pg. 8) during the observation. b. Pull out one incident/behavior from the running record to write an anecdotal

record note on the Anecdotal Note form (pg. 7). c. Document one (1) I Wonder statement on the form (page 18). d. Complete the Developmental Indicator Summary (p. 17) for the Cognitive

Development section Submit:

4. 2nd Observation: Language Observation:

record note on the Anecdotal Note form (pg. 7). c. Document one (1) I Wonder statement on the form (page 18). d. Complete the Developmental Indicator Summary (p. 17) for the Language

PART II

1. Fill in the Cognitive, Language, Social/Emotional Development sections on the Connecting Information Gathered From Families To Developmental Domains sheet (pg. 20) by writing in any information from the parent interview that pertains to the child’s cognitive development. Then put an X in the circle in front of the domain goal represented at the bottom for the statements you have written for the Cognitive, Language, and Social/Emotional Development goal.

2. a. Write at least one I Wonder statement (pg. 19) for each:

i. The child’s environment and ii. The child’s culture

b. Summarize your information gathered from the family (interview), your observation of the child’s progress, and your knowledge of child development; summarize your findings of the child’s development in each of the three domains that you focused on during your observation. This summary should make the connections between all of the gathered information and the information provided in NC Foundations. What information have you learned about the child’s development in each domain? Be sure to use vocabulary and terms from each of the chapters identified in the project directions above. Submit:

 Connecting Information Gathered from Families to Developmental Domains sheet completed.

PART III Write a Reflection: Reflect on your observation and information gathering process for this assignment and respond to these two questions:

a. In what ways did you learn how observation assists early childhood educators

to promote positive outcomes for each child?

b. How does our knowledge of a child’s biological and environmental influences on development, inform our practice as Early Childhood Educators? (NAEYC 1b)
