Identifying 10 Strategic Points
RES-855-0502- Qualitative Research Methods
March 25, 2019 Comment by Anita Varrati: Jimmy, Thank you for your M2 submission. See my comments for each section. Be advised that you will soon have to provide your 10 Strategic Points for your own study. The comments that I have provided are geared to give you a better understanding on how that should be constructed when it is your turn. The task on this assignment was to simply read the Clark & Springer article and supply the 10 Strategic Points document with specific information from that article. Review prospectus and proposal templates for guidelines pertaining to the proper wording and format for sections such as Problem, Purpose Statements. Pay particular attention to the literature review aspect. DrV

Gap · Clark, C. M., & Springer, P. J. (2007). The authors of these study conducted a research using the quantitative and qualitative methods so as to investigate the issue of incivility found nursing learning in any university environment viewing it from both student and the faculty perspectives. This study shows the results of the research and also provide possible solutions to the problems. |
Should be a referenced and cited review of the key articles that addresses 1) prior research, 2) the gap, 3) study focus – in that order.

It is not known what is causing the problem of incivility among nursing students in healthcare faculties. Comment by Anita Varrati: Is the correct location? |
Rewrite problem statement in “GCU” format.
Example: It is not known if and to what extent student and faculty perceive the causes and remedies that impact incivility in nursing education. |
|
|
Research Questions |
RQ 1- What do the nursing students learn in the universities RQ 2- How do the faculties handle student nurses RQ 3- How do the faculties help in training the student nurses for the field experience
How do nursing students and nurse faculty contribute to incivility education? · What are some of the causes of incivility in nursing education? · What remedies might be effective in preventing or reducing incivility?
|
The RQa are already stated. You just have to state what they are. |
|
Sample |
A blended-techniques convergent parallel layout is what Springer used to accumulate information from thirty-nine nurse educators who were hired at three faculties of nursing within the southern region of the United States. Creswell, (Luparell, 2017). · Location – Houston, Texas. USA · Target Population: · Nursing Faculty · Behavioral & Mental Health Facilities · Lecturers · Nursing Student |
Your sample is the group of individuals who actually participate in your study. These are the individuals who you end up interviewing (e.g., in a qualitative study). Sample: Fifteen of 36 nurse faculty (41.6 percent) and 168 of 467 nursing students (35.9 percent) completed the qualitative parts of the survey.

Describe Phenomena (Qualitative) |
To understand the incivility among student nurses in the healthcare institutions. · Variables Comment by Anita Varrati: This is a qualitative study? Variables are reflective of a quantitative study. · There is a high rate of incivility among student nurses in the healthcare institutions in Houston, TX. · Student nurses in higher institutions at Fort-Bend County, TX. are commonly known to engage in uncivil behavior · There is the need to understand faculty perceptions of the student nurses’ uncivil behavior |
Phenomenon of the study: what we want our research to understand, predict, explain, or describe. Causes and remedies that impact incivility in nursing education. |
|
Methodology and Design |
This study used the Mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) which was a convergent parallel design that allowed the transactional model of coping and stressing |
Authors state: Qualitative Methodology; Narrative Design. Some quantitative instruments were modified into more open-ended data sources. |
|
Begins with one sentence that identifies the research methodology and design, target population, variables (quantitative) or phenomena (qualitative) to be studied and geographic location. Comment by Anita Varrati: Begins with one sentence that identifies the research methodology and design, target population, variables (quantitative) or phenomena (qualitative) to be studied and geographic location. This can be presented as a declarative statement: "The purpose of this study is...." that identifies the research methodology and design, population, variables (quantitative) or phenomena (qualitative) to be studied and geographic location. This can be presented as a declarative statement: "The purpose of this study is...." that identifies the research methodology and design, population, variables (quantitative) or phenomena (qualitative) to be studied and geographic location. |
The purpose of this study is to understand the possible issues that result to incivility among nursing students in Houston, TX. so as to recommend possible remedies, (Clark, 2018). |
Rewrite this purpose statement based on “GCU” format. Example: The purpose of this qualitative narrative study is to examine how student and faculty perceive the causes and remedies that impact incivility in nursing education in the associate and baccalaureate degree nursing programs of a metropolitan public university. |
|
Data Collection Instruments and Approach |
· Informed & signed consent from participants · Visits to healthcare sites and universities that educate nurses · Interview with Lecturers, Doctors & Psychoanalyst recorded on different tapes · Sampling Method: Purposeful Sampling · Sources: Interviews, Questionnaires and Surveys |
Must provide the actual steps of data collection in the order that researcher is conducting them. The idea is that future researchers are able to replicate research based on the data collection procedure. |
|
Data Analysis Approach |
· Data will be collected and analyzed for the study. · Descriptive statistics will be used in summarizing acquired data. · Coding will be used to address questions posed. · A narrative summary will be developed. |
Must provide the actual steps of the data analysis for each RQ specific to conducting a quantitative or qualitative study.
Merriam, S. B. (2002). Qualitative research in practice: Examples for discussion and analysis. San Francisco: Jossey-Bass.: Should be cited and referenced for specific data analysis procedures used.
