Rational: I selected the NAEYC Standard 6 because as a PRE-K lead teacher, I design a beginning and end of the year survey for my parents to fill out. The beginning of the year survey is for me to gain a deeper understanding of their backgrounds, beliefs, and children’s education. The end of the year survey gives me an opportunity to reflect on their feedback and to focus on areas where improvement is needed. From my experience surveys allow the lines of communication to become open and foster a healthy relationship between the teacher and parents as well. They can also help schools to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children can feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn. Since I attend the school’s monthly staff meetings and the professional development trainings, I selected the CEC standard 6 professional and learning practice. The meetings/training help me to refine my skills and adapt to the children’s evolving needs. They inspire me by emphasizing my role in shaping students’ lives.
