BADM 180 Professional Development Project

Make sure you keep the numbers on the paper so I’ll know what question you are responding to.

1. Search online and find an advertisement for internship or entry-level job in which you would be interested in applying between now and graduation.

2. Look at the ad and identify what skills/requirements are needed for this job.

3. Do an inventory of your own skills and then explain to what extent your qualifications match the skills, education, and experience needed in the postings. What have you done that makes you qualified for the position?

4. Explain what doesn’t match in your skills to the list. Then identify some unique ways that you could gain the skills or experience you lack. Please go beyond your coursework and be specific as to how will you obtain those skills between now and graduation.

5. Conduct research on this company in preparation for the initial telephone interview. Summarize three key pieces of information about a) the industry, b) the competition, and c) the company’s products/services. (Note: this is three things for a; three for b; and three for c.)

6. Create one example of a mini pitch. For this mini pitch, clearly state the issue that was to be resolved, the action you took, and the results you achieved (in other words--what did you do, how did you do it, and what was the outcome).
