Professional Communications in Film-READ CAREFULLY!

Part I:

You are to select a film and examine several theories and concepts of professional communication discussed in your text and throughout this semester to see how they are portrayed in film. The focus will be on how professional communication is used to initiate, maintain, and terminate group dynamics in teams and groups. The film will serve as a vehicle for learning about professional communication. You will analyze what the film has shown about the ways people relate to one another. You can also make a correlation between the film and your personal experiences.

The paper should be 8-10 pages long, with a bibliography of at least three sources. Your textbook can be one of the sources. DO NOT spend most of the paper summarizing the movie, as the movie is only a conduit for you analyzing the concepts of professional communication. Your analysis should focus on issues of communication, incorporating material from the readings, your connection with your professional life, and other class material. You will need a strong introduction and a strong conclusion in this paper as well as identify several (concepts) that you found most enlightening, controversial, or even possibly incorrect, based on your personal experiences working in a professional space. You will be expected to discuss what individuals did, what happened, and why. MULTIPLE relevant communication theories/concepts and text material (throughout the various chapters) should be introduced for each example. You should write this paper as if you were going to demonstrate your expertise and knowledge to an individual that has little or no knowledge of professional communication theory and the concepts of small group. That “pretend reader” should learn a lot from reading your paper.

Again, the paper should be 8-10 pages, word-processed, double-spaced, 12pt Times New Roman font, with a cover page. You must cite the course textbook using APA formatting.When saving your document, include your last name and the assignment, and save as a Microsoft Word file (.doc or .docx)

Submit this paper in the appropriate assignment drop box in Blackboard by the deadline.

The great news is that the concepts can be tied into many chapters that we have already discussed in the course this semester or even if we have not, you can use them.

Select as many concepts/theories as possible that apply to the film. Do not hesitate to go beyond and think outside of the box. As you watch the film, you may want to take copious notes and have your textbook handy. You should note what chapter each concept you use can be located. Due:April 3, 2023, by 2pm. No Late Papers will be accepted. Part II: Each student will PRESENT their film in a 5 -7 min presentation via PowerPoint, during the 4pm class on April 3rd. There will be no make-up presentations. (Please note, if you are not present on April 3rd and your name is called, you will NOT get the opportunity to make it up on the next class). Below is a clear rubric for how you will be evaluated.
