DMAIC stands for define, measure, analyze, improve, and control; this is one of the core elements of the six-sigma metdodology[Angelis & Fernandes, 2012]. The organization first defines the customer needs, and the core business processes, then it measures the performance of the business process and analyzes the data to determine opportunities for improvement. Improvement follows the analysis stage, in improvement, the organization designs solutions to fix the problems; after the solutions are in place, the organization then controls the production processes to ensure that they do not revert to the old ineffective way[Angelis & Fernandes, 2012].

The five whys are interrogative questions intended to explore the cause and effect of a problem. Organizations use the five whys to identify the root cause of a problem; this helps in creating solutions that address the root cause and prevent a reoccurrence of the problem, making the five whys an effective tool in change management. Organizations identify the root cause of problems by repeating the question why, the answer to each question is the basis for the next question until the organization identifies the root cause of a problem.

The 5S lean system is based on Japanese methodology that describes how to organize one’s work place and production for maximum effectiveness and efficiency. The key advantage of the 5S system is improved productivity in home or manufacturing environment. The to-be business process outlines the future state of a process in a business organization; the analysis carried out identifies how a business process will work in future. Proper documentation is essential because it improves the accuracy of the to-be process and improves efficiency.
