According to Ibrahim, Al-Nasrawi, El-Zaart, & Adams (2015), the ability of any IT company to compete favorably with others depend on the pace that they keep with the advancing technology. Most of the companies find themselves trailing others, making it hard to impress their clients who are also currently becoming more technologically savvy. Amazon is one of the examples of the companies whose IT sectors have made it possible to rise among the top in embracing rapid technological advancement especially in delivering products to their clients (Muñoz et al., 2015). They are also making rapid strides in the use of drones and data analytics in improving the delivery of products as well as making proper classifications of potential customers. One of the major causes of obsolescence is the diminishing lifetime of most of the electronic components produced by companies such as Huawei.
As the lifetime of the most critical software and hardware components keep on shrinking due to rapid competition, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are finding it necessary to make products that are released to the market in versions (Kosinski, Matz, Gosling, Popov, & Stillwell, 2015). A case of such a strategy is the Microsoft company which has managed to keep pace with other Operating systems through upgrades of their subsequent versions to merge the changes in the IT industry (Muñoz et al., 2015). Another way in which the obsolescence issue has affected the industry is by forcing companies that initially used to make long term plans to change such plans and instead make short term plans due to unpredictability.
The obsolescence problem is also not yet resolved because it is hard to determine what time will take for a given product to be rated as irrelevant in the market. Such an issue had a spiraling effect in financial planning which has also faced major stagnation in the IT industry. While the research is needed to address the problem, it is imperative to understand that such challenges can lead to falling profits and subsequent stagnation in growth as reported by Apple Inc (Muñoz et al., 2015). Nevertheless, working on the time to time market analysis can help companies to perform proper research on the state of obsolescence of their products in the industry.
