Private Sector Funding

Introduction:

As a school, program or department leader, there may be times when you are approached by members of the private sector who wish to give financial donations to you for the benefit of your students. While well-meaning, there are several considerations that leaders must reflect on before accepting such gifts.

Instructions:

Consider that a school administrator receives a private sector funding proposal for his/ her school (i.e. a local business offers to give you money to fund the purchase of student laptops to support distance learning).

1. Write 2-4 well-developed paragraphs that address the following points/ questions. Cite evidence from the course readings and/ or other scholarly sources to support your answers.

○ Describe the positives and negatives of accepting such a proposal. ○ How might you ensure that all concerns are addressed and

conflicts are resolved? ○ How might administrators work with private sector donors to fund

resources that will help their schools meet academic and other goals?
