Outline: Character Analysis of Amber

I. Introduction

a. Amber insists that Tom engaged in sexual activity with her against her will, even though Tom is positive that Amber likes him and that their sexual activity is voluntary and completely consent-based. He is also certain that their sexual activity is consensual.

b. Amber’s claim that she never gave Tom her entire agreement to engage in sexual conduct with her is supported by several contextual indications, which validates her statement. Amber asserts that Tom never had her complete consent to participate in sexual activity, and the charges of sexual assault against Tom are perceived as calling attention to her claim.

c. Sexual assault: “In the context of sexual violence, “sexual assault” refers to any sexual contact or activity without the victim’s prior and informed permission. Included in the category of sexual assault is the attempt to commit rape. Sexual contact that isn’t welcomed, like fondling. The act of compelling a victim to engage in sexual activity, such as oral sex or piercing the offender’s body, against their will.”

d. The controversial nature of this novel is that who is to blame for all the sexual assault cases. The character of Amber will be analysed in this study to find out if she is to blame for these issues or if Tom has done wrong to her.

e. Amber is brave, and she sees things from a unique angle compared to the majority of others. Tom is usually characterised as being flirty, rude, and self-absorbed, although he is unhappy with himself. This chart also analyses the major sexual assault storyline that plays a role in Actually and how Amber and Tom cope with it (Ziegler). Amber insists that Tom engaged in sexual activity with her against her will. “This moment when all of a sudden, he was inside me, and it’s not like I expected him to ask my permission, but I didn’t expect him not to either. And it hurt and kept hurting, and eventually, I just jumped out of bed” (Ziegler, 41).
