Internationally renowned Patti LuPone comes to

Tallahassee

Broadway fans will have the chance to see Tony Award-winning entertainer Patti

LuPone live at Florida State University’s Ruby Diamond Concert Hall on April 5, 2018.

LuPone will be performing her show “Far Away Places.” The show will feature Broadway

classics, 1930s and 1940s cabaret and contemporary pop songs by some of music’s

greats such as Kurt Weill, Willie Nelson, Cole Porter, The Bee Gees, Edith Piaf and

Stephen Sondheim.

“Far Away Places” will take audience members on a journey across the world as a

representation of LuPone’s early life, touring with John Houseman’s Acting Company.

LuPone spoke about her vision for the show in Emerald Coast Magazine.

“My inspiration for ‘Far Away Places’ comes through traveling that I’ve done both for

work and for pleasure,” said LuPone.

“Earth is a glorious beauty, and all of her people and their cultures are forever

fascinating to me. There is so much to learn, to appreciate, to stand in awe of.”

LuPone is an internationally renowned singer and actress who has made her mark in

stage musicals. She began her professional career in 1972 with The Acting Company

and made her Broadway debut in 1973 with her performance in “Three Sisters.” Since

then, LuPone has become a two-time Grammy Award winner and two-time Tony

Award winner. In 2006, she was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame.

Bobby Bacon, president of Earl Bacon Agency, sponsor of the performance, expressed

excitement of bringing LuPone’s talents to the local area.

“It’s a great privilege to bring world-class artists like Patti LuPone to Tallahassee. Let’s face it, Patti LuPone could schedule a sold-out performance practically anywhere in the

world, but she chooses to come to Tallahassee because of the reputation of Florida

State University’s faculty and students,” said Bacon.

“The corporate sponsorships make it possible for artists to stay in town and host a

master class with our students. Imagine, you’re a musical theater major at Florida

State, and your professor tells you your guest lecturer today will be Patti LuPone.”

“Far Away Places” will kick off FSU’s Opening Nights April performance lineup. The

show begins at 7:30 p.m.
