Introduction

Research Aim: • Identify, Analyse, and Evaluate a location in NSW with a sizable crash

problem involving motor vehicles.

Location : Intersection of: • Dacey Avenue, Waterloo, NSW • Lachlan Street, Waterloo, NSW • South Dowling Street, Surry hills, NSW

Procedure: 1. Desktop survey of crash hotspots in the Sydney LGA, using the NSW

Centre for Road Safety's – Interactive Crash Map 2. Identification of hotspots with features potentially contributing to

human factors crashes 3. Site visit to confirm hypothesises and further understand site 4. Detailed crash analysis to understand crash mechanisms 5. Evaluation of site features according to Human Factors Crash

Investigation checklist.

Further Research

There was a significant issue with rear end crashes, potentially linked to high-speed traffic travelling both north and south on South Dowling Street.

There exists some safety concerns about traffic joining this high-speed traffic from adjacent roads, especially southbound traffic joining from Dacey Avenue.

The presence of the shopping centre had impact on crashes and the intersection through traffic flows and potentially driver distraction.
