In-class Presentations – History of Economic Development

Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to allow students to explore a topic within economic history in a more in-depth manner than we can in class. This can be a topic that you thought we should’ve given more attention to, or an area, time period, or subject that you have always found interesting. Expectations: Students will present a 10-15 minute presentation in the format of their choosing. The material presented should be well organized, and contain information not yet presented in class. Sample topics:

-History of development of a specific country (not covered, or covered very little in class), for example Mexico, Brazil, Korea, or Australia. -Choose a historical event, law, or policy change, and explain how it affected the development and/or economics of a region. -Any topic that we discussed in class (ie a theory of development, rise/fall of manorialism, the black plague, religion, technology, institutions) investigated in greater detail -Any published paper relating to economic history (several will be posted on Carmen) -Check the sign up sheet for more inspiration. Some really cool ideas have already been proposed!
