TeamSTEPPS
Introduction
TeamSTEPPS is the teamwork system that is jointly developed by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) (Butterly, 2018).
The TeamSTEPPS is aimed at promoting institutional collaboration and communication to help in the improvement of patient safety.
The TeamSTEPPS is designed for healthcare professionals, it is an evidence-based teamwork system that is important in the improvement of the communication and working skills among healthcare providers (Butterly, 2018).
The Principles of TeamSTEPPS
There are five key principles of this system and they are based on the structure of the team and four teachable learning techniques for example communication, leadership, situation monitoring, mutual support, and team structure (Mahmood, 2021).
Team structure involves the process of identifying the key elements of a multi-team system to effectively promote patient safety.
Leadership involves the maximization members’ activities.
Situation monitoring involves the scanning and assessment of the situational components to help in the understanding and collection of the information.
Mutual support involves the anticipation and offering support to meet the demands of the team members.
The implementation of TeamSTEPPs
The implementation of the teamwork system involves different steps.
The steps include the creation of the change team, defining the issues, challenges, or the opportunity for improvement.
Defining the goals of the TeamSTEPPS intervention, designing of the TeamSTEPPS intervention.
Development of the plan for testing the efficiency of the system.
Development of the implementation of the plan; development of the plan to sustain an ongoing improvement.
Development of the communication plan, putting all things together, performance of the review of the TeamSTEPPS implementation Plan with key personnel and its modification.
Conclusion
TeamSTEPPS is a teamwork system that is created by DoD and the AHRQ to help in the improvement of the institutional teamwork and communication associated with patient safety (Mahmood, 2021).
TeamSTEPPS is guided by various principles, various steps must be undertaken to ensure that there is a successful implementation of the TeamSTEPPS.
